First trip out this season

I finally got in the woods Thanksgiving Day for the first time this season. I have rarely had my rifles out to shoot since the accident last year with the home damage. We made a lot of changes and it kept me busy but the final results is looking like it was worth the effort. My wife and I did take week ends off through the summer to go to the drag races quite a few times and really enjoyed it. I almost don't miss the guns being laid aside for a while. It was getting a little boring always messing around with them and having friends bug me to do stuff for them on their rifles and not being able to say no.
Back to Thanksgiving Day. My wife had to work and she said why not go in the woods for a few hours because no one would be coming here until 4:00 anyway. I took my Sako 222 Rem. because our Pa. three day extended season for turkey comes back in Thanksgiving. I usually always see turkeys where I hunt come through about 7:45 AM. I guess they need lessons on telling time because it was 7:48 when they came through.
The first one got across the shooting lanes we use for deer hunting before I had my rifle loaded. I loaded my Sako and about 1 min after loading here comes a big gobbler but not quite as big as the first that went by. I had to take a quick shot before he got across the lane and he went right down only to get back up and fly right up the hill toward the deer stand where I was sitting. He got maybe 15' in the air but only made it about 20 yds. until he went down and beat the wings on the ground for a few seconds then was done. Got lucky with the shot and never touched any of edible meat so all was good. It was only about a 75 yd. shot and I use a fairly tough constructed bullet to minimize damage to the meat. Weighed in at slightly over 18lb. with a 8" beard and nice 1" spurs. I think the first bird had close to a 11" beard the way it was swinging as he walked but may not been any heavier in body weight. The wife came home and said we have enough turkeys for the holidays coming because she had just bought two at the market. 
She paid less for each 22lb. turkey than I spent for gas to go out then had to clean mine. Turkeys were on sale here for $.29/lb. 
Been a long time since they were that cheap. Hope everyone had a nice holiday and I will be back on here once in a while. I need to learn how to post my pictures since photobucket lost their minds.
