Your Christmas Tree

The kids are scattered, and we live and hour away from everything. About ten years ago, when the nice fake tree finally gave up the ghost. Miss T sat down and divided up ALL the Christmas decorations except my Marine Corps ornaments and a few special knick knacks from her mother. She packed them into four boxes, and shipped them to the kids, each one getting their named ornaments, plus old favorites they always chose to hang on the tree. The rest she just split between the four boxes.

Now, the traditions can continue for the new generations, young enough to enjoy them. We don't put up the tree any more and don't make a huge deal about any of the holidays. We treat one another the same way all year round, and, lol, it seems to have worked.
Miss T has kept me around. Ho Ho Ho....

We do set out our few special ornaments we kept....

Its not up yet here and its a fake tree that's heavier than I like to carry up the stairs. Its a very nice full fake tree and I haven't ever seen to many like it. Im one who could adopt the Marine idea but the wife loves the Christmas decorations. So in order to stay around I raise the white flag and give a hand. Al

Luckily for me... Miss T and I see eye to eye on a LOT of things.

Artificial, it just went up. now the wife will spend the next few days making it perfect to her. We used to just put up a small artificial and would go to one of the kids houses for Christmas. Now they all come here because we live more central to them all. They are all 1 hour or so from us in 3 different directions.

Tree is up. Fireplace channel on (woodstove is in other room). Bring on Christmas.

Since all the kids are gone,we usually buy a small (2-3' tall spruce or fir) live tree in a pot to use as a mini-Christmas tree and then plant it in the spring.

We have two live trees. A large, balsam fir in the living room and a small Douglas on the back deck. Both have lights on them. She decorated both while I made cookies and other sweets.

What kind of cookies?

Molasses, honey, Italian lemon drops and shortbreads. I also made chocolate covered peanut butter balls, potato chips, pretzels and blueberries. I have to make more, as I recently learned her WHOLE family is coming for Christmas Eve and she doesn't really cook. Now I have to plan the meal. Main dish is tortiere, French Canadian Meat pies. This will be fun.

something over a year ago one of our sons moved back home .... since then they have built and recently moved into a new home .... he's long had a dream of having a home where our entire family can collect for holidays and this will be their first Christmas in their new home .... they took their daughters to a local tree far so they could cut their own tree .... below is a picture of their tree with my wife standing by it so as to give a size reference

Live tree. Bought, but not put up yet.

Haven't had an artificial since I was a kid in the '60's.

Always take it down after New Years day.

Keep it lit every night till New Years.

11.5' .... they couldn't find a commercial stand that could handle it ... so, our sons built one out of scrap 2X4's left over from when the house was built .... Rube Goldburg would be most happy with it ..

Artificial, it is getting more attention now that we are raising two of are grandchildren.

I don't put a tree up but rather put my leg lamp out the day after thanksgiving. I put it away on New Years Day.
