turkey parade

Though I share this with the forum that happen three days ago on the way home with my grandson. There is a heavily forested state park that we go by quite often with forested homes across the road. It is not uncommon to see turkeys in the yards. People have told me some home owners feed the turkeys and that is why I see so many. They are not hunted so they are pretty fearless.

That day we are cruising along and the car in front slowed and stopped for a parade of turkeys crossing the road. There were 17 or 18 crossing. And they were taking their time. Turkeys don't waddle like ducks or geese as they walk, they strut with their head moving in sync with their feet and they are SLOW. The whole gaggle ( flock, troop, herd) took about 4 minutes to cross. Cars backed up on both sides patiently waiting. Of course, the kid was loving it and truthfully so was I. And then he wanted to know why they were so skinny compared to what he sees on TV. And that is a whole another story.
