Hurricane Harvey has moved out of the headlines but his aftermath will be felt for many years to come .... Hurricane Irma is coming on the scene ..... its still way to early to know where Irma is headed but a landfall in the Bahamas, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and even toward the Delmarva Peninsula is all in the realm of possibilities .... best case scenario, the potential remains for the storm to curve northward and miss the East Coast entirely .... what is being projected is, Irma will grow to a Level 4 or higher Hurricane .... it appears the most of the east coast needs to be keeping a close eye on this storm

Nuts.

What has me worried about this one is it reminds me of Mathew, last October. They kept on moving the path further west with each forecast.

Finally it stopped it's western movement and passed by 35 miles to the east of me as a cat 4.

That was scary...............

I hope that Irma passes you all by with minimal damage. We tend to get the tail-end of your hurricanes over here, and after crossing the Atlantic they only have 5 - 10% of the force they have when they hit you, but that is bad enough. I can't even imagine what they are like at full force, but I do know that I wouldn't want to get too close to one.

Watching closely. We Have a planned trip to the Outer Banks shortly.

Of course getting hit here in the mid Atlantic is also possible.

My concern isn't the winds. Irene came inland over NY several years ago and turned mountain creeks into raging rivers in hours. The Appilachians and Adirondacks can't take a full hurricane moving inland.

Hope anyone in it's path is ok. Send some rain here!!!!

local reports in our area say they will know much more by Wednesday of Thursday .... right now they don't know if it will move south of Florida into the Gulf our swing north and come up Florida's east coast .... if it does that NC's Outer Banks can come into play

I don't wish ill will on anyone but I sure hope that Irma doesn't take a trip to Texas. We need a reprieve. I hope it hooks out into the Atlantic and doesn't bother anyone except the fish.

I just read Jake where two category 4 storms have never hit the US in the same year.

Looks like it is going to happen as they continue to move the storm track further west.

I don't think you guys have anything to worry about, though.

My parents are in Pensacola. The went thru a major hurricane several years ago and had a blue roof (tarps) for over a year. Roofing guys from several states had basically moved their businesses to Florida for eighteen month to handle all the business. Finally, a young contractor came in, did the job for a fair price, and moved on to the next place on his list.

Three months later, another hurricane came thru and ripped up two sections of the new roof. Blue roof club again. No fault of the contractor.. Bad Storm. They called the same guy, and he snuck them up the list, two months rather than a year.

I talked to my stepmother yesterday. They are watching Irma. They have tarps... food/water and are prepared. At eighty, they can't do much else. I'll pray for them.

Irma is rated as a Category 5 .... it is still several days from the US and they say it is way too early to come anywhere near projecting where it will hit .... regardless, it has a high probability of being bad

When I talked to the Stepmom she was worried because "Their" weatherman is calling for it to hit miami, and even it was to turn after that, they would still get wind and rain from the edges, and the edges of a CAT 5 would still be nasty. I told her to wait a few days and see what happens... the folks up here are saying they don't know yet, and talking maybe the DelMarVA area.. which would spare them completely and we would only get medium winds and lots of rain here in Central VA. Then she started to fret and worry about that....

That's her "thang" ... fret and worry... she'll find something to fret and worry about. If everything is perfect... she worries about that.

My sister lives in the same area. She's seen some nasty stuff as well. I'll be calling her shortly.

Year right now it's projected to come down my driveway

This is where a distance of 20 to 50 miles from the eye wall can make a huge difference. Water is irrelevant as I live on a hill and the storm is fast moving.

Edit to add: May be time to move a few things around in the garage to make room for the Mustang

while its still to far out to speak with any degree of certainty, one projected track for Hurricane Irma has it coming ashore right at Charleston, SC .... looks like this one is really going to be a dandy

Hurricanes don't deliver rain drops; they deliver devastation that includes pounding, flooding rainfall, large hail, tornadoes, and incredible straight line winds that makes every living thing tremble.

This is looking like a significant threat to the southern U.S. and beyond; maybe even as far north as New England before it leaves.

Two CAT 4s in one season has never been seen before. Batten down SE coast. Take NO chances.

I can only imagine; the worst winds we've seen here were 92mph that I can recall. That was bad enough. Take care all.
