Fun at the County Fair

Us suburban folk sometimes fantasize about the Western life. Well, the county fair had a booth where you could get dressed up in western or 20s gangster gear and pose for pictures, so we indulged. Unfortunately the guns are props, but we had fun. I guess one is never too old to play Cowboy!

I wonder if they'll let me bring my Henry next year.

Great picture... I love it.

Miss Tina and I took one years ago when WE used to be able to put up with crowds.

I don't know if people have changed that much, or I have just gotten grumpier,

Probably a little of both. But they don't pay me to deal with stupid anymore so we avoid crowds like the plague.
Here is the picture we took at a small rural county fair. I was a lot younger, and smaller then.

We weren't smiling in the picture, but there is a good reason. If you remember all those period pictures, no one smiled. You had to stand frozen without moving for several minutes to have the photo done. The guy that ran the booth, told us we could smile if we wanted to, but it would look out of place and ruin the theme of the picture. "You have plenty of Olan Mills pics with you smiling, Keep in Character, you'll be glad you did." We never regretted it.

Man, you are one scary lookin' dude.
That looks like a great idea. As you say, it's never too late to play at being cowboys.

Great photos! It looks like you found fun.
I don't like crowds either. Or waiting more than two turns of the traffic light.

Maybe I was in a past life... Sometimes I wonder if I've been this way before.

Never would have thought about it, but it's very true. They didn't smile back then.
I think it may have been as much to do with the Civil War, etc. as the photo technology, though.
Can you imagine pictures of 2nd Manassas, and everybody is sitting around smiling.........

Could be, but if you look at any of the pics from that period... you see very few smiles. Maybe life in general sucked, and there was little to smile about.

Even the guys who went west...

... most of the pics... not smiling.
