As many on here know I load some very light loads for caliber sometimes. Always using an appropriate type powder of course. Because of this I'm always on the lookout for squibs. I normally carry a cleaning rod in my range kit. If I don't see or hear a hit on the target I unload the gun, Open the action and run the cleaning rod down the barrel to check for squibs.
It can happen to anyone, Handloads or factory ammo. Knowledge is the best tool. Hard to defend yourself from things you don't know about.
Be aware of your gun folks. Every shot!
