Watergarden

The watergarden is an attraction for so many creatures.
I found a few snails in it this morning (I suspect their ancestors arrived long ago, as a bonus, with a waterlily that no longer exists).
Tadpoles born of Green frogs scoot across the bottom, feeding on algae or rocketing to the surface to grab a gulp of air, then diving down to the bottom again.

When we first built the pond a little more than a decade ago, we "liberated" a dozen Golden Shiners from a local bait shop and now hundreds of their offspring live here, ranging in size from less than a quarter inch (fry) to older fish that are as long as 7 inches.
Chipmunks, squirrels, frogs, birds, snakes, raccoons, skunks, opossums, fox, coyotes, domestic cats and dogs, butterflies, bees, dragonflies, and interesting insects of every sort are drawn to it; I think because of the waterfall and its sound of running water. Regardless, it is always very animated and usually a very peaceful place where life goes on!
Where I sat for this photo, just outside of the back sliding door, I can see the statue of the Laughing Buddha.
