I finished the fence at dusk yesterday and didn't get a picture to post. This morning as I was taking a picture I heard a hot air balloon so went into a clearing and took this picture. We are right under the path they usually take so this is almost a daily occurrence

Had an opportunity to go for a ride in one once and took them up. It was really neat very quiet when the burner wasnt on. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Al

We had one land at my parents place in the country. The chase trucks drove over the lawn and made ruts. As fast as they landed, they loaded and never even said anything to us. We were within feet of them. That kind of soured me to the gentle balloon crowd.

They have a sort of majesty and just as the balloon was landing, it was very serene and cool, then the chasers got involved. It left a bad taste.

Great photograph.

We had one land in the street on time. It was getting late and dark to where they really couldn't see so had to put it down fast. The chasers were miles away and you do need people on the ground to hold it steady for the few seconds it takes to dump the hot air. A half dozen of up ran out to tether it and they gave us all a free ticket.

About 15 years ago we heard this very strange, un-familiar sound. It was kind of like a "Twilight Zone" thing. We looked outside and saw our cat looking scared half to death. It was starting to get louder. We all said "What the heck is that" !! We then looked up to the West of us and a little North, a Balloon, drifting away from us. If we only knew what it was and where to look a little sooner as it was pretty low and just about right overhead of us. The strange noise was, of course, the Burners trying to give it lift.

We were sitting on a hill on our horses 30 or so years ago and one went over. Horses almost never have occasion to look up at something, their necks and heads aren't built that way. No air predators. But they looked up at it and must have wondered what the heck it was.

We had one land in the street in front of the house early one morning twenty years ago. The sound got our attention. I thought the water main had broken.
