RCMP busted a gun shop in southern Alberta this week and seized all the inventory. Unless I'm mistaken, looks like a lot of Henry's were scooped up. The owners were selling guns to people without valid licenses. Big no-no.....seized over a million rounds of ammo as well.

RR what does it take to buy a gun up there? You say no licenses. Is there some sort of class and test you must pass in order to get a license similiar to like a drivers license?

In Canada you need a PAL. Possession and Acquisition License. You must pass an RCMP firearms course to get it. Basically a written test, no shooting involved, although your instructor will bring a cross section of guns to the course. There are a couple of types of PAL based on classification of firearms. Non-restricted refers to rifles and shotguns for the most part. Those firearms do not need to be registered with the gov't. For handguns you need the Restricted PAL, which means restrictions on where and how to transport and store it. They are registered with the gov't. Very tight rules and our mostly gun-unfriendly politicians and lawmakers don't bend them. I have my Restricted PAL which also covers non-restricted. The RCMP restricted license database is run daily to flag any offenders, yes, I get a background check every day. So, just follow the rules and be a responsible gun owner and you'll have no issues. Firearm ownership in Canada is a privilege not a right. We have no 2A.

It isn't just Canada that imposes restrictions like that, many states do, too.

The state of CT requires a state issued license in order to purchase handguns, rifles, shotguns, and ammo. Residents can get a separate license for any one of those items. A CT pistol permit (that allows concealed carry) extends the privilege to buying any and all of those items. To get mine, I paid for an 8 hour NRA gun safety course, passed a simple written test, and demonstrated competence handling and firing a handgun. With my NRA diploma in hand, I then paid for and received a temporary license provided by my local town government. With that temporary license in hand and a clean background check and with my fingerprints on file, I became eligible to pay for and receive my five year state issued pistol permit.

That said, anyone in CT can own a firearm without a license (2nd amendment) as long as it never leaves his/her house.

Not sure what happens after they are done being evidence in a trial. The Henry's can come to my house for safe storage, and to keep the working parts in good order...

I wonder how much money the vendor was making by selling on an illegal black market. Any legitimate investment in inventory, overhead, and other legal business transactions he/she may have enjoyed is lost. Why take the risk? What's the profit?

Likely asking themselves the same question. 2 guys, 58 and 31. Father and son I guess.

this thread has drifted into a direction that we simply don't go .... that being discussions on the 2nd Amendment .... such discussions have a way of generating emotional responses that can and do lead to hard feelings .... our community is dedicated to building positive relationships, not to moving in the opposite direction .... discussions of the original topic are fine, lets move this thread back in that direction
