I believe I am finally on the home stretch with finishing up my home from the car accident. It was 7 months this past Sunday since the accident and seems like it has been a couple years with the slow progress. I wasn't supposed to have to work on it and I have over 300 hrs. in it with no pay. All of the workers quit for some reason and left one guy to do the work and that left me to help with putting on siding and gutters and a lot of things I had never done before. I was lucky not to fall from any high areas but did have a nasty fall last week from a ladder on to the concrete steps. Still have some left hip and shoulder pain but is getting better now. I have the foundation to paint and the porches and last will be my gun room. I may do a little in the gun room if we get rain and stops the out side work. My wife will help with the landscaping that needs to be done from all the digging around the foundation and the tearing up the lawn with the heavy equipment. I cut a few of the contractors jobs off as he was really milking the hours to make more money. We had to spend a good bit of our money to get where we are after the insurance money ran out. I did go out and buy me some of my own tools to work with that I have wanted to get but kept spending the money on guns and ammo. I took some time and refinished my brothers Remington 521-T that got hit with some flying debris when the car came through the foundation and into my gun room where it was sitting. Glad the stock was not broken and only needed refinished. I did a sight upgrade for him while it was apart to make him feel better about the damage it suffered. It turned out nice and he is happy with it. I tried to duplicate what the original finish looked like but it actually doesn't hide the grain quite like the original "mud" looking stuff they used.

I am really pleased that you are finally getting towards the end of this terrible event, bandit. It must have been a very long, hard 7 months for your wife and yourself, and I'm sure you''ll both be very glad to see the end of it.

Also, if your brother isn't pleased with his rifle, then he must be very hard to please. It looks great to me.

Good to hear the project has an end in sight. Glad that your fall didn't cause worse injury. Anytime I take a spill my worst injury is usually my pride.
The rifle is a beauty, you do good work.

Although the track behind you took a lot of time to run, and you did have to invest more $$ and time, I'll bet your place will look much better than any of the losing workers' would do. They didn't even have the oomph to see the finish line! Anyway, your work I'm certain is better because we Henry Forum members have seen how perfect your gun shop and rifles all turn out. Yes, your brother should be most pleased with his rifle.

You said your gun room will be last. I'd take some extra time and TLC putting it all together again. Do some special stuff for yourself that you didn't have in place before. Just make it a most fun part of this 7 months or so recovery, and enjoy the new place! Best as you cross the line.

most definitely good to hear that you are rapidly approaching the light at the end of the tunnel .... sorry to hear about the fall .... is there anything that can be done to your lot that could act as a barrier

I thought about trying to find some surplus Jersey wall and painting it blaze orange and lining up the front and sides of our yard with it. My wife was not happy about the message I wanted to paint on it.

Been a long haul. Glad you're almost settled.

I'm glad you can see light at the tunnels end. Good luck with the finishing touch.

understood .... we have a home down the road from us that is built in a fairly sharp turn .... over time several vehicles trying to take the turn too fast have ended up in his yard, a couple have hit his house ..... when I spoke with him, he was concerned that if he did what he'd like to do, if someone ran into it they might take him court .... what he finally did was to deepen and widen the drainage ditch that runs just off the shoulder of the road .... for him, problem solved .... a couple of ended up in the ditch but none have gotten past it

I've seen homes in similar surroundings where a couple of very nice, large decorative boulders have been placed. A few flowers and presto; instant fortress.
