Salute --- Armed Forces Day 2017

One more good day to fly the Red, White, & Blue in honor of our many American military heroes.
I came across an internet collage this morning doing just that. It was a series of photos and service descriptions of some service men and women, who greatly contributed to preserving our freedom. I selected these to post covering three points in military history from WWI (October 1918) through Afghanistan (2007). There are countless more....
And much thanks to all the Henry Folk who have served in our Armed Forces.

Alvin C. York
In October 1918, York, as part of the 82nd Division of the U.S. Army, came under sudden heavy fire from enemy soldiers. While nine of the Americans were injured or killed, York started shooting the German gunmen with his rifle and shot six of them. He received the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross for his valor.
Lewis Millett
Colonel Millett (pictured, L) fought the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War, but is best remembered for the “Battle of Bayonet Hill” during the Korean War. Then a Captain, Millet led a bayonet charge that forced the enemy to flee. He was awarded a Medal of Honor for his exceptional bravery.
Monica Brown
During a 2007 Taliban attack in Afghanistan, the 18-year old Pfc. put her life at risk to provide necessary medical treatment to fellow wounded soldiers. In 2008, she received a Silver Star Medal for her bravery and became the second female since World War II to be rewarded with a Silver Star Medal.
