Dodged a bullet this morning

This morning I was getting ready to start on my room and heard a couple load noises from out side and thought it was a train down back. They stop there some times and then when they go again they make some pretty load noises taking up the slack between the cars. Well then I heard the fire sirens go off and though it must be something else going on. I still didn't go out side or any thing as I was getting ready to make breakfast. The fire trucks and ambulance came up the road and stopped out front. I then looked out and saw a pick up across from the house headed into the woods. I looked down the road a little below our front yard and there was a tree cut off and our mail box and the neighbors mail box were flattened. The truck crossed the center line and just missed two cars head on and then hit these other things before stopping. If she would not have went across to the other side our house was in line to take another hit from a vehicle. This full size new Tundra pick up would have finished our house off for good. She said she fell asleep. Twice in five months two people fall asleep and one just about wipes our home out and this one could have or worse yet killed the people in the other cars. I believe there is more to this story. The police women said the insurance would probably pay $50 for the mail box and $50 for the post but I would have to put it up. I said "I didn't knock it down and I ain't putting it up". :x "I got enough to fix from the last idiot that said they fell asleep".

Might be time for a 4ft concrete retaining wall strategically placed.

Bandit, that's very disturbing news. You seem to be in the line of vehicular fire. With that history, you might approach the town (or state) to provide signs or guardrails or something in order to prevent another accident. I hope you get some sleep tonight. Keep us posted.

that's pretty much what I was going to suggest with the provision that the wall be about 4 ft thick as well .. ;)

Get a pressure treated 6x6 and make sure it is at least 3 feet in the ground . mount your mailbox on top of it. I had some minor problems with my mailbox getting knocked over until
i did that. Now no more problems.

I'll chime in with a ditto to BigAl's suggestion of some big boulders, Bandit.

When living in OR, our house was on a nice corner lot, but it was also the entrance into our sub-division off the county road. Had quite a few "visitors" running through the corner flower patch, and onto the lawn. Fortunately, our house was a good distance away from both roads. The boulders helped immensely, and cut down on that extra traffic. And I thought they looked kind of cool, too. ;)

Ya, big boulders! The ACME coyote-roadrunnner size ones. Holy cow you are in a bad spot for vehicles. Glad you're ok.

Good grief. This is becoming scary. Time for some speed bumps on the roadway.

I also envision you erecting some of those cement pillars that are put up in front of some big box stores to discourage ramming the building with a vehicle to gain unlawful entrance.

I'd also have a taser handy in case they survive the crash. But that's just me.
