Hey Gang,

Was just over at RFC to check up on a cool thread that has been locked. The thread was about Winchester subsonic 22WMR, a subject interesting to me and seldom discussed.

So why was the thread locked? Because someone had the audacity to say that subsonic magnums were silly

Somehow the moderator took that as attack on the other members supporting the idea.

My posting there has died to near nothing as many of my posts are deleted with no reason given. I believe one lady mod (starts with an "S") will delete your post if she disagrees with you.

Also there is absolutely no humor on that site AT ALL. I don't think it's allowed.

Great place to read and learn though, just wouldn't want to live there................

I have a log in there but have made maybe 3 posts. The place is an occasional visit.

I left a huge outdoor travel forum last fall over biased moderating like that. Took me weeks to get someone on staff to take seriously that I wanted my account closed!

RFC used to be the first site I would visit when turning on my computer. That changed when our Henry Forum started. There is some great info on RFC but there is times when I think they have me on "ignore." I don't really care so much about the other sites any more. I have my favorite right here and feel we are all friends on here more so than the other sites.

I was thinking about deleting your post and banning you, just to make you laugh at it. Then I thought you were having such a bad time over there, you didn't need it here, even in jest.

I used to go there, but not since I've been here. (Too busy in the back boiler room lol)

I still visit there on occasion because, now and then, I do find some info on a gun I like. Very rarely post, there, anymore, though. The overall tone is too competitive and downright combative at times to the point of being unpleasant. Always feel like I have to get ready to defend myself when I post something. Way too many people eager to tell you how wrong you are. Just not my kind of place. I'm much more the friendly, family type when it comes to forums and this one is as good as it gets in that respect.

I participate there a bit, but not nearly as much as at other forums. The most active sections, such as the ones about modding 10/22's are populated by members who have really specialized interests. The Anschutz and CZ/Brno sections are dominated by bench rest shooters who also have very specialized interests.

I guess I see RFC as more of a resource than a discussion forum. For example, I recently needed to repair an old Springfield 87A "gill gun," a rather unique semi-auto 22 rifle that has now become somewhat obscure. I was able to successfully diagnose the problem and replace the faulty parts using help I received from RFC members. The disassembly/reassembly process with that rifle is tricky, but they walked me through it.

I've never gotten "in trouble" at RFC, but hey- there's still time!

Kind of the way I feel about Cast Boolits. If there not bashing a Henry for no side gate there bashing each other for one thing or the other. I dont think I have ever seen a levergun thread there that doesnt bash a Henry for they way they load. Al

I'm registered at about a dozen different gun sites and thought about RFC too, but when I heard some negatives about the place a while back, I just stayed away.

I've had pretty good luck with the ones I'm registered at, being good well run sites, except for one.

I used to be a member at the Ruger site, but left because of the overwhelming Censorship. This was a couple of years ago. There was a pretty big blow-up over there a little before and a lot of members left, but it was the Censorship that finally got me to give it up. Soon after I bought a Ruger, lol. Didn't care for the site, but love the gun, lol.

The Marlinowners Forum is one that I like a lot, and am very active in. They, for the most part, seem to have their act together when it come to moderating. They use a lot of common sense, and give members quite a bit of leeway, but they know when to step in and enforce the rules. Still, I was a little surprised today when I noticed a thread started by a new member who goes by "F*rtsalot." Wish I'd have thought of that one when I signed up here!

Haven't seen him over there yet, but I believe I'll be staying away from him, lol.

All sites have their pro's and con's and appeal to different folks. Most problems I've seen over the years on any site have been caused by one or 2 people. Sometimes members, sometimes staff.

I used to belong to a number of forums.. but am sad to say that as the membership grew in number, most lost their friendly / family atmosphere. Others were "owned" by a certain group of senior members who delighted in bullying others. I never stuck around. The bullying wasn't really an issue, hard to get a black eye over the internet, but I had a stressful job, I logged on to forums in my interests to wind down, not get wound up. Lol.

These days, I belong to one shooting forum. A pair of woodworking forums, a kayak fishing forum, and a Marine forum. No facebook, no tweety bird, none of the rest.

I have seen where a site that was moderated/owned by a private individual/group sold out to huge corporations like Internet Brands and the character seemed to change. I think it was ditto that posted earlier about liking the Marlin Owners forum and I agree.

They seem to walk the balance between what is acceptable and what is not. Even in the Political forum they remain civil.

For a larger forum, definitely not bad.

I used to be on a couple of ranchers forums, but some people are just plain ignorant on them. Isn't it great how somebody can be such a big arrogant bully online, when in real life they'd just get their clock cleaned. This forum is great. Others where folks just like to argue for the sake of being a windbag; no thanks.
