I've been watching a series called Blood on the Battlefields on AHC. Good documentary series. No Henrys that I've seen though.

Henry rifles were really not all that common. Not all that many were made. They were mostly, if not all, privately owned by those who fought with them.

I didn't expect to see any but kept watch anyway.
Great film footage of vets at a ceremony in 1913. Old soldiers from both sides. Fascinating.

I'm gettin' old. When I was born, there was still one Civil War vet living. Now all the WWI vets are gone, and it won't be too long before we have almost no WWII vets left.

TV_series) We have a lot of Civil War history in the area with Gettysburg only 30 minutes away and Chambersburg, where I live, was burned by the Confederate army because the mayor would not pay a ransom. Lee's army marched through Chambersburg on the way to Gettysburg in July of 1863. The battle was fought from July 1st to the 3rd. I see with that link that you have to click on another few links to see what I am talking about but I just did it and it can be done by clicking on the other links.

I think my favorite movie of all time just might be "Gettysburg."

Yep, with Jeff Daniels, Martin Sheen etc., I have it on DVD and it is one excellent movie. It was actually filmed in Gettysburg but not on the actual battlefield because it is considered "hallowed ground." It was filmed on adjoining farm fields and woods. A trip there to the battlefield and the museum and visitors center is really worthwhile. The shops in the town are just great to shop in when there.

Yes that is a good series too. I have the Ken Burns series "The West" on DVD, it is very good as well.

I have watched Gettysburg several times and have almost worn out my DVD . I managed to get to Gettysburg in 2011 and it is something else going through the battlefield. I went to Little Round Top three times and still want to go back. I do Civil War reenacting and the unit that we portray is the 20th Maine.

As a Civil War history fan, the above story caught my attention as it was the North that was known for burning, but I did a little research and found some interesting history on it. It states that the first 2 times through Chambersburg they left it alone, but the 3rd trip was different and on July 30, 1864 and they did burn it in retaliation once the money was refused to be paid as you have stated. Out of strange co-incidence, some of this happened in my area.

One of the greatest things about the war though was how friendly each side was to each other at the Re-Unions that followed in the later years. I have studied that as well and will try to post some links on it as time allows.
