Norton Buffalo lived right here in Paradise. He died at a hospital that's not 2 miles from where I type this in 2009 – the same year my daughter was born at that facility.

Was it as good as people have said it was? I would have loved to have been there, just to see the bands in the lineup. I don't think the world will ever see the like again.

Honestly, Les, I only spent a small time in front of the stage as I walked the perimeter of the seated crowd down one side of the hill and across the front and up the other side. It was like being in a slow stepping parade, there were so many people in motion. The music onstage filled the acres around it, so it could be heard, often muffled and echoing and competing with the rest of the festival. People were doing all sorts of things and were everywhere, many making their own music in smaller crowds or otherwise entertaining themselves by dancing and playing, yelling and singing. Food and drink and smoke passed among strangers. We brought many gallons of wine that never made it to the end of the festival. We had a large tent, but it seemed that no one slept -- I certainly got very little. By the time Sunday morning arrived, we were all so tired and wet that we longed to be home. It wasn't until later that we actually understood the true scope of the event by the news reports and aerial pictures. In short, my memory of it has blurred over the years, but it was less of a memorable music concert for me at the time than it was an almost unimaginable spectacle.

I saw Hendrix play at the Isle of Wight concert just a month before he died. He was my absolute idol back in the day. I couldn't believe the news when I heard he'd died. Just one of too many talented people who were taken far too young.

I did not go to Woodstock, but got asked if I were about 100 times, lol. People were always walking up to you and saying "Hey man, you going to Woodstock"? Although I loved music like most of us did, I was more into cars than the music scene. But little did I know what great history stood before me. I know some that did go and in particular one of my good friends. I was working at a gas station at the time when he walked up and said "I'm going to Woodstock and they are going to pick me up here". He was only 15 at the time, lol. He didn't even know the guys too well. I had my doubts, not just about him being serious, but the guys following through as well. A short while later a big 'ol Pontiac with 6 guys in it already pulled in and he said "there's my ride, I'll see you". He plopped in the middle of the back seat and out the driveway they went. Like mentioned, little did I know the great history that stood before me and the chance to witness it.
