I was looking for a few Items this evening in my room that I knew I didn't pack away in the boxes of reloading supplies and other items I needed to store while my room is a mess from the accident. I came across a small box of turkey beards from the fall gobblers I have killed since '05 with the Sako 222 my Dad left me. That rifle has killed a turkey every year since he gave it to me and has taken 6 gobblers out of the 11 seasons that I have hunted with it and been my good luck turkey rifle. Pa. allows fall turkey hunting with a rifle. I have another box some where with beards in it taken with 223's I used to use. The 222 is the better turkey rifle with less meat destruction. I have taken nearly a 100 turkeys in my life time of hunting due to hunting more than one state until recently and now just Pa. hunting. Here is the 6 beards from this rifle. I fixed one up with the spur on a piece of a shoe lace because this was a one spur bird.

Nice bunch of beards. The first wild turkey I shot was flying over me and a load of #4's from my 870 took him down. I almost took my Remington 788-.222 on that hunt. The local gun dealer that was 10 minutes from home told me "you better take the shotgun" I did and it was a smart move that trip. I always liked the .222 as it is sort of a scaled down 30-06.

Every day is a school day. I didn't even know about turkey beards until I read this thread, and after a quick 'Google' I am now a bit more knowledgeable than I was 10 minutes ago!

That's a great story about the beards. I like the spur attached to the beard.

That's a cool collection and a great way to honor your father, Bandit. The one spur beard is very cool.

The Spring Turkey season in CT only allows bearded birds to be taken, but the Fall season can be either sex. Turkey hunting would be a thrill. I hope to do it myself one day, but in CT the only firearm allowed is a shotgun, so for me, the first step will be to own and become familiar with it. Hope springs eternal.

I'm more of a turkey handlebar mustache kind of guy, but those are cool.

I was expecting to see a man with a beard when I opened the thread.

I killed a bearded hen turkey one fall season. A friend of mine also got a bearded hen one season while hunting pheasant and turkey was in at the same time. The strangest bearded birds I ever saw was a double bearded gobbler I got one year and my brother and Dad killed gobblers with multiple beards. My brothers was a three bearded bird and Dad's also had three beards. The birds with multiple beards usually have much smaller beards.
