I just signed a contract to have a thousand square feet of hardwood floors put in the house. That is in addition to having 400 square feet refinished. Work will begin on January 3rd and will take two weeks. The person doing the work is an artist in wood floors. I saw what he did in a friends house and it is remarkable. He is from Poland and barely speaks a word of English so we text everything except grunts and pointing to objects.

In the meantime I need to dispose of a lot of old furniture. The neighbor lady is helping me list it on offerup but I don't really expect to get much for it. The floor man wants access to the full area to be worked on. This means absolutely no items on the floor and he suggested taking everything off the walls and out of closets too. From now till it is finished I'll have limited access to the house so my posting might be done in bunches but not every day.

I'll try to post pictures as the work is being done.

The firearm cabinet from Henry will need to wait about two months.

I thought you were moving to Banana, Montana.

I still want to own property in Montana but not sure about moving there completely. Yes property is cheap but the medium income is quite low and crime is high.

No I'm pulling up wall to wall carpet.

Good move, Gene. We've converted all but the spare bedroom over to either wood or tile floors and that last bedroom is scheduled to get wood floors as this winter's main project. Bill does all the work and is an expert at laying both types of floors. Our house is what I like to think of as more of a cabin in the woods than house, what with us and the dogs constantly tracking the outdoors into the house. Carpeting is completely unsuitable for outdoor folks like us.

I don't wear shoes in the house and have a bench near the entrance where I can take them off. Only three bedrooms will remain carpeted although I'm looking at some very nice Persian carpets. Man those can sure get expensive.

If we had to stop and remove shoes and put them back on as much as we move indoors and outdoors, we'd waste a good part of our day. We do have the real deal Persian rugs, as in actually made in Iran, but don't even use those, now.

Living in the country I would track too much debris inside if I didn't remove my shoes. But I do have a house shoe that I can wear if I'm driving into town and just going into a store for a latte and such. But if I'm working in the yard I wear other boots with waffle stopper souls which collect mountains of dirt so I take those off.

If I told my husband to take bis shoes off when he comes in the house, he'd think I had lost my mind.

The process is not fun. The results will be awesome.

I did a complete renovation about 6 months ago.

I feel your pain. Hang in there and you will have a new floor in no time.

What I want to be able to do is walk further into the house without having to take my shoes off. More hardwood floors with nice wool area rugs will allow me to do that. The only wall to wall carpets to remain will be in the three bedrooms. The formal living room, dinning room, office and family room can be entered with shoes on after the additional hardwoods.

A lot of the houses here have what you call a mud room. An entry where you can come in the house completely covered in mud and be able to undress. The most common area to enter is the laundry room and my house has that but it also have a small foyer in the front entry where taking shoes off is easy. I have a bench there, a foot rest and a place to put shoes. Even a shoe horn if you need one.

I can run out to pick up mail or put out trash in my indoor shoes but if I'm working on the yard or out and about I put on boots with a waffle stopper soul. They are great outdoors but not something I want to wear indoors. So I just make a quick change at the door whether I'm going in or out. And its not a federal law so a quick trip to the rest room or fridge is permitted.

Our house was built in 1940 and has hardwood floors. They have carpet, in need of replacement. I pulled up the carpet in one bedroom long ago, and it's beautiful. I can't convince my Wife to pull the rest up yet

We were thinking of wood floors too but then HRA announced that darn 1860 Original in 45 Colt...
Oh well, the carpet is good for another decade or so.
