the last of The Seven .... on his first orbit they became concerned that his capsule's heat shield my be loose and might not make it through reentry .... his trip was shortened to 3 orbits .... not knowing if the heat shield would hold or not, the last thing heard from him prior to entering the radio blackout phase of reentry was humming the Battle Hymn of the Republic .... an authentic American Hero

There are very few men who can claim to have left their indelible mark on the world, but John Glenn was such a man. I am sure he will be remembered for many years to come as a man of courage and integrity.

RIP Mr. Glenn. The world is a sadder place for your passing.

When I was a kid, depending on the day, when I was out playing I was either Roy Rogers, Gordie Howe or John Glenn.

I can remember getting up at 4 in the morning watching all of the first flights. I remember Allen Shepard's first flight the most. R.I.P. Mr. Glenn.

One of the funniest episodes of the show "Frasier" is where he had Senator John Glenn as a guest on his radio show. Glenn is in the radio booth, and Frasier gets called away for a few minutes. Glenn takes the opportunity to tell America about all the strange things he saw in space that he was never able to talk about. The microphone is off but Glenn doesn't know it. Then we see Frasier and someone he's talking with in the hallway, and you can see John Glenn through the glass mimicking aliens with antennae, and with one hand making 1 eye in the middle of the forehead, etc. He's spilling the beans about all the alien stuff and nobody hears it. I bet had a blast doing that.
