After a terrible week we just had things may start to get better slowly. The insurance people were here and for now we can stay here but we may have to stay out when the work begins on the foundation and some of the other issues that need fixed. They are already trying to weasel out of covering some of my bullet and primer losses and other reloading things. My Ohaus scale is broken and a pair of my binoculars were under the concrete blocks that came in and fell on my counter top. I think quite a few boxes of bullets are down in the bottom of the blocks of the foundation that is still standing. There is things they want to short cut on fixing and I think things could get ugly trying to come to a decent out come from this mess. They kind of got the upper hand with that hole letting in all this cold air. I am using about four or more 5 gal. buckets of coal a day now instead of less than two before to keep it comfortable in our upstairs area. I am trying to keep it warm without the oil furnace because the filler pipe is inside the basement now instead of out side where it was and the fumes are there but may be a lot worse if we try to fill it before they start working on things and get the filler pipe back out side. So after they left yesterday to wind down a little I goy my Remington 513T out of the safe to test my eyes with the peep sights to see if my vision is back after the eye injury last week. I shot at 33 yds. and the wind was light and I shot the first shot at the target with a clean barrel. It was about 5 o'clock out side the black and the next 5 were in the black. I had a black push pin in the middle of the target. I think it looked a little fuzzy to me but not bad and I hit it the first shot. So I feel better about my eyes also. Here is my target and I feel great I could see it and hit it like I could before the fall last week.

Keep after the insurance company, they need to be watched carefully.

From your results, your eye seems to be on the mend and then some. Glad to hear that something is headed in the right direction for you.

Good old gunpowder therapy works wonders.

Insurance companies are a few feet below shark poop, imho. As Dave has said, keep after them, and don't accept their first offer unless you really have to.

On a brighter note, it's good to know that your peepers are still working well!

Thanks for the range report, Bandit! It's so good to read a little optimism in your post and to see that your shooting is as dead-on as ever. I am so glad.

Regarding the insurance company's position, they are most certainly not working for your best interests, so be extremely cautious before you agree to anything and especially before you sign anything. With the stakes so high, you may benefit from having a lawyer. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Show the insurance guy that target. Might help motivate him.

Glad things are looking up to a certain extent and that you felt like doing some shooting. I have never had to deal with an insurance company in regards to any house damage of any kind so I can only hope that they will be more cooperative and as others have said, if all else fails, a lawyer may be the best solution.

Yes, nice shooting! I'm not sure how it works in your area....just make sure all of the repairs are up to code!

I want to thank all members of our Henry "family" for their kind comments on the problems I have had in the last week with my eye and the car coming through the foundation of our home. I am just in over my head dealing with this type of destruction again. I dealt with this type of bad destruction 11 years ago with my Dad's house fire that we lost him in and hoped I would never have this problem again. Everyone here is always ready to give a member some encouragement to keep their head up and move on and don't get down when things go wrong. One member here which is a fantastic guy to talk to is PT7 that called me on the phone and checked on me when he found out about my eye injury. What a nice soft spoken courteous person to have a conversation with. Very considerate really nice gentlemen. This forum is fast becoming a favorite of mine and I feel it is only going to keep getting better if that is possible. So again my thanks goes out to my fellow members for being concerned for me and my wife.

You know if life were smooth sailing all the time, we wouldn't enjoy the good times nearly as much.
