We took a Mossberg 500 pump out for its first time.

This was the first time I ever shot skeet. I did better than I thought I would. Probably hit 80% of the clays. Using the pump tired me out come round 40-50.

Here's the young man I took shooting last time. He's part of the crew now. It was a beautiful day to celebrate being American by shooting the Shotgun.

Excellent. I like shooting clays, but they don't like holding still long enough for me to hit them! It's a lot of fun though.

I have shot trap, but not skeet. I'm not sure I want to now either. After seeing that young man's expression, it doesn't look like he had any fun.

Yes Dave, we all had fun.

Although not very many times for either, I've shot both trap and skeet. They are definitely different shooting sports. On-line explanations and/or visuals are the best way for you to see those differences. Just look at/compare the ranges for the two, and you'll immediately know you're at different shooting parks!

I made an important discovery the first time I shot skeet, which I now know is more challenging than trap. I found that I have cross eyed dominance, and cannot easily shoot skeet. I plan to go back to the trap range (when the weather gives me the chance again), and I believe I can handle that sport. The clays fly much differently, and I've done okay at my trap days so far.

BTW, Coach, if you hit 80% of the clays first time out shooting skeet, you are definitely in the top-notch beginner category! Good job....enjoyed your Range Report.

OK.....I did some you tubing and we shot 5 station Trap.

Trap = one bird house.

Skeet = two bird houses.

I'll admit that 'trap/skeet' went over my head! But that looks like a nice place and a beautiful day to shoot!

Skeet is tougher than trap no doubt and sporting clays is a real challenge. Al

I like your explanation here Coach. It looks like he is really enjoying the shooting sports Coach. Good job to you for taking him. It has to be passed down.

I hope you encourage that young man to join here. He could learn plenty in a nice atmosphere.

Exactly!
And at 4 out of the 8 skeet stations, you shoot doubles with the clays coming out from the opposite "bird houses.".
Trap is five single shots at each of the five stations.

So, Coach, your 20 hits (80%) at first-time shooting trap is still an excellent score!
