Been really busy around the homestead and my range trying to win the battle of keeping the grass cut with our last couple weeks of heat and humidity! Also had been looking at getting another VW Bug like the one I had in 1972 during last half of my Senior high school year and found a really nice 1965 one same color and well taken care of. I am only the 4th owner of it now and have all the paperwork for it from all the owners including the dealer order sheet! It was always parked in garages when not being driven and it is very solid with no rust issues. Still has the original factory glass in it too along with all the light lenses. Will post up some pictures of my bolt on mods to it to get it somewhat like the one I had which was a 1966.

My wife is doing as well as she can at the Memory Care facility. I go 2 times a week minimum to spend time with her and enjoy lunch but most times she really wants to go with me when I leave. Still hard getting used to her not being around the house especially in the evenings like back in the days before that Alzheimers started to work on her.
My late brother's 1970 Hemicuda is on the road again at the big Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle Pa. this weekend and the new owners,the Quintons, have it setup in a nice display. I will try to post up some pics of that. It was also featured in the latest Summer edition of Hot Rod magazine a good read if you find it.

Haven't done much shooting at all due to this humid weather lately and will try to enjoy that at next better weather break.

Will try and get back in the saddle posting here more!

The new first car I ever bought was a '72 VW Beetle for my young bride. Fire engine red and I went big when I added an AM radio for $49.00. Best car we ever had. Wish we still had it.

Glad to see you posting. Tina loved the bug she had as a youngin'. She always waxes nostalgic when we see a nice old one. She blows rasberrys at new ones. Lol.

Yeah, those AM radios sure were expensive. Back in the day I had a paper route and remember seeing a dealers advertisement in the paper showing brand new VW bug’s for $1300. Even as a kid delivering papers for nickels thinking “hey, I could buy one in a few years”. Man those days are gone forever.

Forty, happy to hear from you and happier tho hear you’ve been busy with fun projects.

I guess I remember it to some degree because, as I said above, it was the first new car I ever bought. As I recall, it was $1,999 and the radio got it to almost $2,050. I am sure I had to finance it as there was no way I would have $2K in cash back then. We got great service out of that car.

Even more scary, a few years later, we bought our first house and the monthly mortgage payment was $118/month.

Auto loans and house mortgage payments added up to a lot of money for a young elementary school teacher and a young police officer. Then, in 1975, the two of us became three and she was out of work for a year plus. Really had to watch our pennies then.

It may have been good for us, we learned to be frugal. More important, after 55 years of marriage, we are still together. By far, I got more than I deserved and she got less than she deserved.

It sounds like you are pretty busy Forty. It's good to hear your wife is doing as well as she can.

Had a 1970 Bug in college, taught my future wife how to use a manual transmission on it, my neck still can feel the whiplash

I think I've mentioned before that we have been through all this with my Mother in Law. It's really tough at first. You just have to realize that you probably cannot handle this yourself and work through it. After a while my Mother in Law learned to like the place where we had her and forgot about home. She became part of the group there. It's hard to watch and breaks your heart, but that's just how it is.

Never was much of a vw bug fan.
Di have an oldet friend who had a few, got to ride in his new Super Beetle. It was pretty fast and cornered well.

Back in my high school days those of us who drove up to the local snow ski resorts always envied those who drove beetles. The rear engine helped with traction in the snow/ice getting up the mountain. Most put a vertical ski rack on the rear which I always thought looked cool.
