I bought a few more beer signs yesterday. There’s still a few more in the van. Its so cold I don’t want to move them much and then I let them warm up before checking them out and hanging them.


This one I’ve had for a few years. I’ll eventually hide the cords on the others like I’ve done here.

Very interesting! The Stroh's clock brings back memories. I haven't seen that brand for a while but I still indulge in an occasional bottle of Schlitz.

Do you have a Hamm's clock with the canoe paddling across the "shimmering blue waters"?

No but I wish I did. I also bought a dozen pitchers and about 40 glasses. They are still in the van. I don’t like opening and closing the doors in the extreme cold.

Correct Sir Henry. I’m going to call an audible on myself for the Tuborg trivia. My feeble brain tells me that I used to hear a commercial that said, “you’ve got class like a Tuborg poured into a glass”. However after doing a pretty extensive search (I didn’t want to be wrong ) I can’t find that saying anywhere. Of course as punk kids we changed it to “poured up your A$$”.

Way back in the day Idaho had a drinking age of 19 and Washington (where I live) had a drinking age of 21. Since Idaho is just 20 miles from Spokane we would drive to a community called Stateline that was just a bunch of bars to carter to us Washington kids. On Thursday night one bar over there had “dollar pitcher night” and had the large glass pitcher like Sir Henry showed. Somehow we survived it as of course we spent lots of nights at Stateline and then driving home.

The bar we had in Minnesota had a room in the basement piled high with signs and lights. Never figured it would be worth something so it stayed there when we sold it.
Michigan drinking age was 18 in 1972. That lasted about 4 years before it returned to 21. South Bend IN/ Notre Dame was under 10 miles south. There were bars everywhere in town. Recall penny beer night on Tuesdays. One cheap keg of beer was 1 cent a plastic glass until empty. Was a continuous line around the bar and you drank your beer until it was your turn to fill up. Got 4-5 beers out of a keg. About an hour later was 25 cent a 16 ounce glass of beer for 4 hours at another bar. We would fill the table with glasses. Wednesday mornings were a bit rough.

Yes! As a matter of fact there are a few bottles of ice cold Schlitz in the basement fridge right now.

Indeed. Walking into a party with a case of Coors made you an instant hit. Back off girls…..well maybe not.

Before metro area Portland exploded into the Tualatin Valley, a lot of our non-grocery shopping was done in downtown Portland. Early 1980's it was still somewhat safe to to go there. Not so much now. Anyway, we'd sometimes, while down there, cross over into Vancouver WA and buy a couple cases of Coors. in 1985 Coors became legal in Oregon, so those side trips became unnecessary.

My first taste of Coors was in the late 1970's on a swift roundtrip road trip to Arizona (long story). Coors had a reputation in the east, and it was very good and very cool. We bought a lot of it. For the road. A decade or two later, it made it's way into New England.

I'm not much of a beer experimenter, even though my brother has been crafting really good beer at home for more than forty years. Grows his own hops. Into it.

I'm simple. I like Milwaukee beer, and even though Coors is sold here now and may even still be cool, I usually buy Miller High Life in bottles. I would actually prefer Old Milwaukee, but it's not stocked where I shop, so Miller it is.

Got some great memories of that road trip, of coors.

Old Milwaukee was our go to beer in our late teens early 20’s. Inexpensive and available.

Back in the 70’s or 80’s there was a big campaign to make Coors a union shop. I remember bumper stickers on cars saying:

Up Yoors Coors.
