Lucky, Foolish Me
I don't get out much anymore. Unless I have a need to go somewhere, I stay home. It's comfortable here and I like it.
This afternoon, I got in my car and drove to the package store to buy a box of pinot grigio. I opened my wallet and the only credit card I own wasn't where it should be. So, I checked in every place it shouldn't be and, yup, it wasn't there either. It was gone. I paid for the wine with cash, then I panicked.
I can't lose that card. I pay for EVERYTHING with that thing. I earn points and pay the balance in full every month and always have. I truly panicked; it's the only card I own. But, I'm lucky because I don't get out much anymore. I checked my credit card activity online and the last time I used it locally was Tuesday -- at two places. The second one was a gas station. So, I went there and asked the owner if anyone had turned one in. He asked my name, opened a drawer, looked at two cards, and handed me mine. Whew! The panic attack was officially over and I thanked him very, very much.
I found myself at a counter in a gas station that I very rarely enter where someone did the right thing a couple of days ago that helped a stranger who foolishly left his credit card in a gas pump. I felt lucky.
I bought a Powerball ticket.

Whew, I can sympathize with the panic felt. Glad it turned out well and that there are still honest people out there.

Great story. I'm glad you got the card back and it didn't go the other way.
I know what you mean about going out. I find less and less reason to want to go places.

I did that a couple years ago with my debit card, luckily it still was at Home Depot where I had just used it. Now I double check that it's back in it's assigned slot in my wallet every time I use it.

Re: Lucky, Foolish Me
Glad it worked out Stan. I DO know that feeling of panic.
It was just week before last that I went to our local Publix grocery store. I parked and then grabbed one of the carts in the lot that was close by. In the upper child seat area was a woman's credit card. I knew what she must have been feeling if she had noticed it missing. I of course went directly to customer service and turned it in. Hope she received it.

Left mine at restaurants before and have been lucky enough to get them back. Now the first thing I do its put my card away before I sign the ticket. Glad it worked out. Ive had more trouble lately with my number be taken and getting a new card.

Most of us can appreciate your feeling of panic when looking for a lost card. Doesn’t make it any easier and I’m happy your adventure worked out fine. Wise decision buying the Powerball ticker!
