My paid off home now cost me $358 bucks per month just for real estate tax and home insurance and to top it all can hardly afford to get a buzz with a 6 pack and Fritos!!!! That is 20 plus bucks you looking at right there! If the doctor told me I needed a procedure to live 5-10 more years I would say Hell No! Enjoyed the BEST of times and NOTHING coming will be better than what I had before!

I hear ya, bro. debt free here except for taxes, insurance, phone, utilities, gas and GROCERIES.
I don't know the exact figures, but do know the property taxes are like $660 a year.
Insurance, no clue, she writes the checks and don't ask...

3155 to the little city per year to stay here and homeowners jumped up another 200 per year! Now why a bag of corn chips not much bigger than my hand is $5.89 is just beyond common sense!

Forty you are 100% right about the insanity. I hear people talk about how bad the 60's were and I would take the 60's any time over the time period we are in now. The 60's were my best years by far.

I got a new rule, any bag of chips more than $4, I just leave them on the shelf, lol.
I do catch some good sales here and there though.
Here out in the country in SW Virginia, taxes and insurance is still pretty low. I would say how much, but I don't want anyone cussing at me, lol.
That said, yes, Inflation is Insane.

I feel your pain Forty, and while not a big chip eater, I'll munch the hell out of a bag of Dipsey Doodles on occasion.
I think you and I would get along just great!

But, on the bright side, your receipt shows you saved $1.40. Just saying....................
Yup. It always looked better as a young man, but it doesn't usually get better.

I’m at about $658 per month in property taxes.
For chips I usually get the BOGO deal.
A case of .357 is over a thousand dollars because of the 21% tax on all guns and ammo…

Here in Taxing Timmie's land real estate is pretty high. I think ours is almost $3000.00 a year now, plus there is a state income tax and sales tax on almost everything.
Still, this is where the grand kids live, so here we will stay, (so says Grandma).
We are blessed however that everything is paid for and we can afford to do almost whatever we want. (At our age we don't do much though).
Still, life is good.

Our property tax is about 4000 a year with a timber deferral. It would be a lot higher without the deferral.

Agree. Blame it on the eggs. The price of everything with eggs in it is crazy.

That was my thought: one man's trash is another man's treasure. It is a reason why people are dying to get into this Country.

I guess it’s all relative. I went from property taxes of $10K in Seattle to $2.4K here. Plus I pocketed a wad of cash. Of course that was back in 2021 and 2022. The taxes are now $12K and $3.2K. The higher taxes here are mainly due to the improvements I’ve made.
If I combine property taxes, income taxes and sale tax I’m paying about a third of what I was paying plus my income has nearly doubled.
The big downside here is I’m 20 miles from the nearest latte and it’s 220 miles to decent healthcare.

I'm paying about $3250.00 for real estate taxes, but that includes an agricultural exemption since a local dairy farmer hays the fields, and I qualify for that exemption. There's also a school tax of about $3K, not sure if that is a part of what others posted.
That's a pretty stark difference from before 2013, when I lived in NJ, and was paying well over $12,000.00 per year for our little postage stamp sized lot.

That’s one of the richest areas in Seattle. I lived in Woodinville which was also up there. A quarter mile from where I lived was a development of $2M-5M houses or should I say mansions. I sold mine for $1.4M in 2021 and bought a place for $264K. With all the improvements I have about $385K into it.

Over here on the cheap side of Washington State I pay “ONLY” $560 per month in taxes and insurance. I bought my first very little house in 1978 and my mortgage, taxes and insurance was around $250 a month as I recall. Add to this 9% sales tax but thankfully we have no state income tax.
