These were in the snow a couple days ago. Any guesses what made them?

A snowman with two peg legs, or two of them with pogo sticks.

WOW, that is a mystery. Where did they lead to?

snowmobile?

Fox and coyotes tracks are always in a straight line so I suggest it was a pair of them
walking one after the other.

They must be like Indians. Years ago, a coworker told me Indians always walk single file. I asked him how he knew and he said the one he saw did.

Based on this, I speculate it is an Indian(s) on pogo sticks.

They were headed straight to a tree although the tracks disappeared in a drift.

My guess would be fox. They appear more dainty than coyote. We now have a lot more fox in our area than coyotes.

The side by side pairs suggest rabbit with fluffy feet..

We have a lot of both at times. I see their tracks all the time and they aren’t like these.

I only see one pair of feet in the tracks. One rabbit hopping off somewhere.

So you think it was one rabbit on two pogo sticks. Interesting.

There's been some melting. That can make it harder to ID, especially as to the actual size. The only critter that runs that way is a squirrel. A rabbit has an offset pattern.

Maybe an ice ball stuck to the fur of the feet.

Interesting trail. It's a shame we'll likely never know what made it. I'm guessing a Rabbit, hopping in the direction of the camera, rear paws landing on the prints from the front paws.

That’s my guess as I’ve seen squirrels in that area.

Do you remember Arie’s hole from the Ruger forum?

I would say Rabbit. But I won’t swear to it. I’m presently prepping for trapping test here. I don’t plan on trapping. However if you want your guide’s license classification you need to pass trapping. The other reason is when we test someone for hunting classification they have to have completed the course and will be asked some questions pertaining to trapping in the oral exam. This way I’ll have a better understanding.

I thought a rabbit as well. I saw tracks like that by my front door. I wondered what would get so close and leave tracks that size. Then one day, I saw a rabbit hopping along, in my front yard.

This is the way a rabbit runs or walks through the snow. It never steps in any of its own tracks. Never. In the snow, though, the two front feet can appear as one. Very distinctive.


This is the way a squirrel runs or walks or jumps through the snow. None of the tracks are ever offset, always in a straight line.


I learned this in eighth grade when I started hunting rabbits and squirrels. I used to go out at night in our neighborhood when it was snowing and follow the rabbit tracks to see if I could find the rabbit. Great memories.

Next to Gene's foot the tracks look too big for a squirrel. I f not rabbit, maybe a small kangaroo?
