Rude Wake Up

Tornado ripped thru Ada, Oklahoma this morning, the nearest decent size town to us. It did cause damage, but we had been getting alerts off and on ALL night on the NOAA radio mounted by the back door. The warnings thru the night were all tornado or severe weather "Watches." At 5:15 we got a "tornado warning," in effect until 5:45, that's one of those bend over and kiss your butt goodbye alerts. So... we grabbed the Fiona, our little Westie, and ran thru the rain to the shelter, just before the hail started.

Sat in the shelter and listened to the rain, high winds, and hail pound the thick concrete... Until 6:15 when they downgraded that warning to a "watch" again. Came back in and turned on the news, and found that ADA had taken scattered hits, ripping trees and flattening structures.. Nothing reported in our little Ghost Town so far. The shelter, rarely used, but worth every penny, if for nothing else but peace of mind.

Didn't see any damage around the farm so far, no downed trees, etc. There is standing water, and that one place in the back yard where water shoots up out of the ground during heavy rains like old faithful. I went out and checked my shop, not one leak.

The watches remain in effect... :?

Glad to hear you are all ok. Your shelter is a must there in tornado alley as far as I see it.

Good to hear you have the shelter for peace of mind. Prayers that it is always just that and your home remains intact.

Glad you are ok and no damage. A rude awakening is better than the alternative for sure.

Thanks guys. The last time Mother Nature vented her anger she did several grand worth of damage. This time just a lot of water and noise. The whole house genny, alarm system, tornado shelter, and NOAA radio were early investments after we purchased the farm.

Hopefully not a too political comment but hope you guys still get timely tornado and hurricane warnings. Doesn't affect me much as we don't really get extreme weather events here in eastern WA.

NOAA does a good job, and you can set your phone to do the same.
Didn't here the siren from our small town this time, but we didn't have one headed to the Ghost Town, which is about a mile away. The bigger town is twenty minutes away.
