Bob Uecker, Mr Baseball RIP

Bob Uecker passed away today. I’ll miss him doing the Brewer games on the radio.

He sure was an interesting guy.

I liked his sense of humor.

He will be missed.

He was always described as a "mediocre" ball player, but as someone that spent a lot of years playing with guys that played semi-pro, Div 1 college, and even a couple ex-pro ball players, anyone that makes it all the way to the big league and stays there a bit is someone with a great deal of ability. You don't get that far without being an exceptional ball player.
That said, his role on the movie Major League is what really shot him to fame. His quick wit, and nearly unending supply of personal anecdotes, made him an enjoyable person to watch. He eventually made it into the Cooperstown HOF for his announcing, and his acceptance speech is worth watching if you look it up.

He was a mediocre batter at best. Where he was exceptional was playing catcher. He brought out the best in the pitchers by calling the right pitches for each batter.
