LA wildfires

What a tragedy happening in LA this week. My wife and I have been glued to the TV watching coverage of the fires and dreading the outcome for our family there. Our daughter-in-law’s sister and hubby live in Pacific Palisades. They had to evacuate and their way out of their community was blocked with all the abandoned cars left by panicked residents. We watched live as the fire dept with a bulldozer cleared a path thru the cars to let the residents get to safety. She said once the path was opened up they along with many others were given a police escort to safety. Sadly we got the word last night they lost their home of 25 years.
Our son and family evacuated out of their Studio City home last night but we believe they are being very cautious. No close danger at this time for them.

Hoping for the best for your family members! I don't see how folks can still afford to live there?

I feel great sorrow for the people effected by the fires. To work all your life and then have it destroyed in an instant
would be heart breaking.
Somehow the country needs to recover from the fires in Maui, the devastation from the
hurricanes last Fall, and now this devasting fire. It will effect us all over time, but I have faith that as a country,
culture, and people we can overcome once again.

I have family out there. One of my nieces and her family have evacuated. We're all very worried.

Our youngest son is part of a mutual aid water drop copter crew from Northern California, working the Palisades fire. Some Oregon fire crews are on their way there, too.
News media is reporting people are using back roads to bypass road closures and getting in the way of the fire fighters.
Hoping everyone affected escapes and stays safe.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Los Angeles. Nobody should have to witness their home and possessions lost in a instant, to this kind of devastation.

Yes, and the suffering continues in WNC.
These are horrible disasters. Let's hope they all get ALL the help they need.

Mark, sadly the folks in E TN and W NC are still not getting what they need,
yet I'll bet a dime to a donut the the Cali residents won't suffer the same for as long.
And a lot of this is on their leadership or the lack there of.
that's all I have to say about it.

I live in California.
We have been taxed for water infrastructure for decades with no dams actually being built in 50 years. We voted for them and have been paying taxes yet nothing, nothing has been built.
This is the result of inept one party rule of government. DEI over common sense is the nature of government out here…
I also have some inside information on the Lahaina Maui fire disaster. It’s been a couple years since the fire and only 200 permits have been approved for rebuilding of homes. Nothing has been issued for Front Street since it’s zoned as a historical area. That’s going to be a long fight.
My friend who lives there told me that most of the homes were not insured because they were passed down through the generations and the locals just didn’t insure them. Most homes were probably never insured.

I’m no where close to the fires. I’m up in the SF Bay Area.
Maybe, just maybe this tragedy will be a wake up call for the people of California…

I can understand Coach. I am concerned about people and animals. Yet, I don't think that the home of animals should take priority over the homes of people.

Another major problem created by the government is that it is illegal to do preemptive burns anymore in California.
There is decades of fire fuel everywhere in our hills.
No logging in California either.
Thus the massive deadly fires…

I saw on another forum that Idaho sent a convoy of firefighters to CA to assist.
Guess what? What?
They sent a good many back, get this.
Because their Trucks couldn't pass their emissions requirements.

I've been hearing from more than one source, and one is a Hollywood actor, that they have not been filling, replenishing, or keeping up with their reservoirs for the much needed water to fight the fires with. Maybe some CA members can verify and/or add more to this. I did read about the dams that Coach mentioned.
