Couldn't find a place to post this topic, so decided to put it here. If not appropriate I'm sure someone will move it.
Has anyone here had or have one of these Tactical flashlights that are advertised all over the internet? I have read reviews and watched YouTupe. But I would like opinions of people I trust. Are they what the Hype claims? Thanks - ArmyScout.

They can be useful in gaining a momentary advantage over somebody by temporarily blinding or disorienting them, but you have to be prepared to follow up the advantage. Just shining a light at them isn't going to do that.

Posting it here is okay. I'm amazed at how expensive some flashlights can be. I own mostly Maglite because they are rugged yet fairly inexpensive.

If you mean like the one in the left hand side of this picture, then yes. They are the bomb. Tough as nails and the brightness factor at night or in a dark room is crazy. For $20.00 a piece I now have 4. Two came with belt looped carrying cases and I am very happy with them.

I see tons on eBay, but have always been somewhat skeptical about the quality. Maglite rings a bell. Gonna do some Recon and will probably get a couple. My wife and I are both in our mid to late 70's, she is semi-disabled and sleeps in a different room, she won't take a pistol, but will take a tactical flashlight. It's better than nothing. Of course I sleep real close and armed.

Hey, ArmyScout, I have a tactical light for mounting on a firearm. I decided on that route because easier to handle a light mounted on a long gun rather than handling two pieces of equipment (flashlight and firearm). Putting them together is easier for me. I used mine on a 12-gauge pump action, as this is designed to be used with a rail-mount long gun or hand gun. It is a Nebo IProtec 190. There are a couple of models of this light, and price range is about $50 - $75. What I like besides the approx. 190 lumens white light is having a second switch option to change it from a straight beam into a strobe light. Les said in his comment that the practical use of a tactical light in any HD situation is short-lived -- it's a "temporarily blinding or disorienting" of a person. I'd agree with that. That's why I like the opportunity to change to a strobe beam, which is even more disorienting. Works good for me.

Since I sold my 12-gauge pump and now have a 20-gauge pump, I only need to find the right size mount to put it on my new s/g. In the interim, I cut down a wood doll rod with the correct diameter, and made about a 12" handle for the light. Works really easily to take off my nightstand and flash wherever it might be helpful. Hard enough to aim/shoot a firearm, but in the dark? Hope these comments might shed some light on your search. Best.

Thanks. I got a very nice .410 with a rail, might work real good on it. Good in-house self defense shotgun loaded with PDX1 shot shells.

I don't have any tactical flashlights.

I have a few Maglight flashlights. (Several large and two small ones.) I have a few standard, plain, inexpensive, Everyready style flashlights.

I use Duracell batteries 99% of the time. I always tried to not use any thing that required a battery, I was raised that way, but I always kept several batteries up to date in my home for an emergency inside or outside of my home. Smoke alarms, emergency radios plus a good wind up radio, flashlights, etc.

My husband has a big RR light and a couple of those lights with a head band that sit on your head like a miner's lamp. He has his own Maglights too. Those miner camp lamps are very bright and they work well in desolate camp sites too. He got his from Costco.

My late husband and I always had several Maglights for inside and outside of the home even when they were not that popular for the 'masses'.

I prefer a brand called Fenix. I have a single AA model that I carry everyday in a Fenix branded basketweave holder on my belt. It is a superb company. I have a few other Fenix products that are equally impressive to me. I have an 8 AA Fenix TK40 that is super bright. I use rechargeable batteries in everything. Enloop brand. I do keep some alkaline batteries around too.

I also have Streamlight products. I tried maglite, but Streamlight just seemed to do a better job for me. The stinger model is a great all around flashlight in led.

Very happy with it. But I think it's the same as the Atomic Beam on tv But comes with a charger and rechargeable battery . SUPER BRIGHT and lasts good.

I never heard of Fenix so I will look it up.

I did see the one tv commercial about a flashlight that is super bright. It looks interesting. In one of the commercial scenes, a woman is standing OUTSIDE of her car on a desolate, dark highway with a DEAD CAR. I think that she may or may not be holding a baby too. I can't remember now. Sorry. How stupid is that for a commercial?! She should be INSIDE OF HER VEHICLE with the doors locked while she waits for HELP even though she has a BIG flashlight turned on for help!

I have a couple of real bright ones that will help me see that grizzly in the dark. Important to know what he looks like assuming I survive and have to pick him out of a police lineup.
