So, Night Before Last...

Post by BrokenolMarine » Fri Nov 29, 2024 3:29 pm

Fiona leapt from Tina's bed at about 4am and went flying over to the China Cabinet.  She was ON point.

Tina tilted the China Cabinet in the corner of the master bedroom  and a MOUSE shot out from under it.  Fiona was in hot pursuit, but lost it when it disappeared into the living room.

Tina picked her up and carried her back to bed.  About 20 minutes later, she launched herself off the bed again, and was back in the hunt... for the rest of the night and half the day.  Sniffing and snuffling here, there and everywhere.  She finally ran out of gas and slept the rest of the day.  (A bad thing... )

She was UP all night LAST night, mouse hunting... Westies were bred in Scotland to hunt rodents, so it's ingrained in their nature... and SHE is on the hunt.  She falls asleep now when she stops moving, poor thing is SO tired... but if something, anything squeeks, she is back on the hunt.

We have sticky traps out, hopefully we'll catch the elusive sucker.  He's Quick.  But until then, she'll be doing "Her Job!"  We'll be hearing the clicking of tiny feet up and down the hall and snuffling ALL night long.
If we kenneled her, she would WHINE all night wanting to work.  LOL.

She has always been a hunter, Copperheads, possums, and raccoons. She herds the Chickens and Guineas for Miss Tina.
But this Mouse is driving her nuts.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

After having the cat catch 2 mice and have a midnight snack in my bed couple weeks ago I bought an electric mouse trap and stuck it under the cabinet where the mice seem to appear. Baited with some peanut butter and 4 double A batteries I have 2 kills without any mess or fuss. The trap flashes a green light every 10 seconds when it triggers. I then take it to the bin outside, remove the top and the mouse, make sure of the peanut butter, place the trap back and turn it on. No snap trap, poison, or sticky trap on a freaked out cat. It has a baffle and a safety sensor so the cat won't get zapped and it doesn't dine on the mice in my bed.

She is so cute. Sounds like she has a lot of heart, though. That's what counts.

Yep a 4 legged hunter in the house is always filled with action. Funny thing though when Buster is out and spots some critter he is on it quick and in the Summer of course he is jumping up at the bees trying to catch one. But let a little ol' fly in the house and he is shaking in his boots!

It's Sunday night and Miss Fiona is still in the hunt. She and Tina were >< this close to nailin the little bugger early this morning when Miss T heard some clicking under the stove. :o She sat down on the floor and ran a wooden yardstick under the stove to flush the little guy. The mouse shot out from under the stove, ran up between her legs and crashed into the dead end. He turned to run and was face to face with 28 pounds of white furball. He never broke stride and zipped back under the stove, never to be seen again.

Both Miss T and Fiona spent the next hour in a modified downward dog pose trying to flush Mickey. Butts in the air, chests on the floor, heads to one side, paws extended, eyes searching...

My money said he was halfway to Orlando.

8-)

He's Quuiiikkk.

Tah Dah... Fiona hunted off and on the rest of the day and half the night and finally hopped in bed with Miss Tina. After the stove incident, Miss T had opened one of the sticky traps up flat, added peanut butter and slid it under the stove anchoring on corner with a stove leg. Mickey was on the square this morning. Fiona did Snoopy's Happy Dance when she saw the little bugger. Now she is asleep in my lap.

Til next time.

Yup, we didn't have a problem until the Feral Dogs killed all but two of Tina's Guineas. We had eighteen.
She'll get some chicks in the spring and raise them big enough to release. They control the mice, copperheads, and most of the bugs.
