I skipped last week and cut the grass yesterday with two weeks growth, instead of my usual weekly cut. Some areas were thick, but the grass was mostly not really growing much. I find that the listed dates for first frost in my area of eastern-central NY are October first, so I may have one more time to mow for the year. I'll be glad to park the mower for the year, maybe even do a little work on the transaxle to fix a small leak. It's nice when it doesn't have to be back in service in a couple days after those repairs, less urgency to the fix.

I let the grass go a little early last year, and it was thicker than I wanted over the winter, so I want to get it that one last mow when the first frost hits. Does anyone else follow that thought process, or is it just me?

My lawn needs mowing and I’ll most likely have one more mowing after that. Like you I like it short when the snow comes as it make the spring growth better.

I mow it until it seems to stop growing. Then I use the tow behind leaf sweeper on the leaves. After that, the snow blower and cab go on.
I have a decent snow blower for my White GT. I may also put that on this year and see how it does.

I was planning to mow today but it looks like it might rain and then there's another problem.
Our service road runs along a major county highway and I mow along both sides ant the entrance, but
some idiot took a big old dump right there in plain sight of both roads and left T Paper and all just
slitting where I would mow. They could have walked twenty feet into the woods to do their job,
but they didn't. We left home yesterday about eleven and it wasn't there but at twelve thirty when
we came back it was, so it was done in broad daylight.
I'm not going to run my mower through that.

I wish I didn’t know either.

I will continue to mow into October as we usually have pretty mild falls around here. And when the grass quits growing I’ll still mow up the pine needles until either all have fallen or we get snow. Some years we get early snow and then it is covered with pine needles. A big mess come spring.

Actually, I think there are times when I would gladly trade South Carolina summers for climatic relief up North.

I can certainly appreciate that. Thankfully where I live our climate is one that really has no extremes. Not too hot in the summer (or it used to be anyway), not too cold in the winter and very little possibility of a natural disaster. I’ve only experienced SE humidity once and that was in May. Not sure if that time of the year is anywhere near peak humidity but it sure got my attention.

This is a good reason for a "dislike" button. LOL

I have a few Shag-Bark Hickory trees near the house, and a few pines, so lots still covers the ground after owing is done. I'd love to get one of those giant blowers that they use on golf courses to push leave off the fairways in the fall. Not sure it would push all those hickory nuts, but I think it would. They're kinda pricey though considering I'd only use it a couple times each year.

Likewise, though I leave the leaves. Good ground cover, at least for a couple months.

Even though I live in the country and would keep them where they fall, Mary likes them off the lawn. I have to say that it seems to give me more seat time and that's not a bad thing.

I've got another 2 months before mowing is done. In fact, the non mowing season isn't long enough for me to even bother to "winterize" the mower.

We have a longer non-mowing season, but the winters usually aren't severe. "Winterize" for me is putting a trickle charger on the battery.

Mowed yesterday for the last time this year, but now the cottonwoods are getting ready to shed their leaves and cover the yard. Always something, so it seems.

Here in S Fla mowing is year round. I'm looking forward to just once a week.

I mowed today, but the rear part of the acreage was less thick and a bit shorter. I’m hoping for only once or twice more. I’ve got wood to split and deer to hunt…
