Henry Rifle Forums

I joined a tube radio forum and sure feel like an idiot. I know very little about them and when I ask a question I get referred to past posts. It really makes me think how great it is that we have forums where we can go and learn from others with more experience.

The forum doesn't allow posting pictures directly to the forum like we do here. So they will miss out on my pictures.

I found this radio cheap. Yes I paid $35 plus tax for it and it works perfect.

Any Cab Calloway or Tommy Dorsey in that record collection?

Nope just a lot of Bob Dylan and some Stones.

I'm just a beginner. Might have to pick your brain sometime.

I don't have any tube radios, but I have my Fender Super Reverb amp I bought in '75. The choice of tubes that amp will use is a science upon itself.

I am a ham radio operator and have made most of my living in the commercial 2 way radio repair business. I also have my General Radio Telephone Operators license.

I like how this old technology is being discussed on the relatively new technology of internet forums.

Calguns.net and a few of the other forums I belong to are the same way. Ask a question, get a snarky response directing you to obscure threads I'm not sure I ever could have found by searching. Oh well.

I belong to a bunch of vintage radio forums on the internet. Not all of us live in yesteryear. Then I also belong to a lot of forums for the newer technology. software defined radio and such. It's all part of a really cool hobby. And I might be guilty of having to many hobby's.

I have a few tube general coverage receivers as I am also a Amateur Radio Operator. They are called "Boat Anchors" for a reason.

The electrolytic caps in the power supply should be changed, Especially if they never have been.

What do they look like? How easy to change? Where do I get new ones?

There are many style's. They could be metal can type that mount to the chassis or tubular cylinders that are under the chassis. I have a fair about of vintage radio manuals. Some are more detailed then others. See if you can find a model number and or a chassis number on the back of the chassis and or on the back cover. they also sometimes put them in side the cabinet stuck to the inside of the case. Usually on the left, but not always the case. might even be on the back panel cover. Pictures of the inside would be great!
