anyone have special plans for the 4th ..???.. looks like we are starting off with an unusually quiet Independence Day .... fireworks are big in the area of east central South Dakota where we are camped .... so far I haven't heard a single one go off, don't ever recall that being the case a couple of days before the holiday .... do know that a couple of families are planning large reunions and will be using open air picnic areas in the park behind us .... don't know of any holiday ball tournaments which is also a bit different .... do know that they are predicting " Cloudy, breezy and not as warm with a couple of showers and a heavy thunderstorm" .... also steady 15 mph wind (gusting to 28), probability of precipitation 98% with at least 4 hours of rain

We were thinking of having some family over for burghers on the deck but the weather looks like a rainy day, so
we called it off.
I am scheduled to be an honor guard at the annual city fireworks with the VFW. We do a flag ceremony and then
lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then the fireworks begin.
The benefit of doing this is we get the best parking place in the whole deal, just behind the grand stand, and we
take lawn chairs and have the best seats in the place as well. Then we have the quickest way out too.

Hard to beat it.

I have nothing special planned. Never do. I don't like all the crowds myself.

I hope that those who do enjoy the fireworks and enjoy the day.

It sounds like Coop has the best set up so far.

No big plans for the 4th although on the 3rd a bunch of us are going to a baseball game. No not the Brewers but a local team from a tavern league. After the game there will be some fireworks.

She Who Must Be Obeyed and I will be at home, no special plans.

Like daytime dave, I do not like crowds but a couple of decades back, we would go to MCRD Parris Island for a great fireworks show. They did it really well and it was open to the public. Crowded but worth the effort.

Ours will probably be a quiet one spent at home this year. In prior years, we'd take the days surrounding the 4th and stay at a place up in Old Forge, NY. The place where we stayed was right across the street from the small park where they set off the fireworks, and we'd set up our chairs near the water, about 30-40 yards from the racks and racks of mortar tubes for the fireworks. Honestly, it's probably closer than we really should be, but that's half the fun. They have a band playing in the early evening, some boaters make their way down into the area, and at a little after 9pm, once it's dark, they do a 20-30 minute firework show. With our room being right there, we're already parked, and usually have big stainless tumblers of Captian and Coke while we enjoy the festivities.
I really do miss that, and it was always a fun coupla-few days of Adirondack activities.

Very limited activity here. Staying home and listening to the fireworks from a distance. Our plans had been to get away from all the crowds and commotion by going up to the cottage. That was put on hold because I fell this past Saturday and broke a metacarpal in my left hand. I'm wearing a partial cast which greatly limits my ability to do much of anything. Heck...I wouldn't even be able to lift the top off of the hot tub up there and boy could I use it!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Independence Day.

Staying home to comfort the new pup when the fireworks start. While in Spokane county they are illegal in the city of Deer Park they are still legal. My wife’s cousin lives on the golf course and they told us the private displays around the course are pretty spectacular. We don’t want to leave the pup so we’ll stay home. The town of Deer Park puts on a pretty decent show for a little town. We’re about three miles out of town but we will hear the booms just fine.

Maureen's Shih Shu is the first and only pup that our family has ever owned that doesn't seem to be phased by thunder and/or fireworks
