Yup, I have an insurance replacement value spreadsheet for all mine, a copy on the computer, and one with my agent, who gets email updates when the collection grows. He's a shooter, so the reply sometimes says something like:

"Added, and green with envy."
"Added, I think I hate you." This, when I added the NIB 1980 6" Python.

If I go first, Miss T will know what the collection is worth. If I don't go unexpectedly, I'll likely liquidate the bulk of ALL my collections prior, to save the family the hassle. At least that's my plan.

I shot the python the first week, I don't keep NIB, don't buy guns to look at.

With you on that one., Marine. I've decided that I'll be shooting our collectibles. Yeah, it will reduce the book value on the unfired, new in the box stuff, but to get that value, I'll have to become a gun salesperson and I'd much rather spend that time being a gun shooter. Besides, the way I baby our guns, I'll still get a good price if I ever sell them. Have always been a shooter and I want to go out that way.

I shoot everything I buy. I don't need them for investments so why not.

I hear ya, I have one 1851 Pietta revolver that is still new in the box, but I have 2 other '51's, a 58' and a '62 that I do shoot.
Some don't get shot as much as others, but they all have been and will be shot as long as they live here.
And there is paper around here that has what I gave for each one at the time of purchase.

I agree with all of you. I didn't buy any guns as an investment. I bought them to use for some purpose. With limited time, I still have a couple who haven't done what I intended for them. When I get the chance, that will change. I will let my beneficiaries worry about their value.

After all, what is a Smith and Wesson model 10 and three rounds of ammunition worth anyways?
