I'm 75. I don't think that in 10 or so years either the trailer or I will be of concern.

We have a very nice kayak trailer, with motorcycle tires and suspension on it... but the tires are about ten years old, we have two sets. We probably need to replace both sets and the spare to be safe. We bought the original when it was still in Beta Testing and called the Rack and Roll, then the designer sold the company to Yakima. They are great trailers. Light Weight and fold to store flat against the garage wall if you are short of space. He designed it to store in his daughters dorm room, it would ride UP the elevator. She stored it against the wall behind her couch.

The crossbars can take any yakima rack and we have hauled the kayaks, bikes, and even a pair of bookcases. Swingarm suspension protects the cargo. Motorcycle shocks help with that. It rides in the dead air behind the truck so it barely affects the mileage when towing, unlike roof racks, hardly any drag at all.

Upgrading to 14” tires and a stouter axle makes a lot of sense if you drive long trips. Just say no to toy 12” ones. How much is your boat worth, and what about the risk of wrecking and hurting somebody..

Buy a TPMS kit for the trailer, it will alert you when a tire loses pressure or the bearings start to fail (hub gets hot), giving you time to correct the problem before it fails catastrophically. There are many, I have this one and it has been reliable over six years. Batteries are easily replaced. The sensors are not 100% waterproof, remove them before submerging the boat trailer!
