Strange looking buck on my trail cam yesterday ?

Post by fortyshooter » Tue Mar 05, 2024 9:30 am

Down at my range yesterday to do some work and found this big guy on my camera. Strange looking rack and only one eye glows! Another small buck in the background.

Really interesting. Might have had a fight while his antlers were still growing. I couldn’t determine which eye didn’t glow but if it’s the same side as the disfigured antler maybe the same reason???

Cool video.

It is the left eye as you look at it. I had to take a picture of the video with my phone off of my ipad so might not be a clear as it should be. Could not get the video to load directly to Youtube for some reason.

An injury to the opposite side rear leg will cause a malformed antler. Farmed red and red/elk cross deer for 20 years.

I'm thinking he lost a fight.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Kinda reminds me of some of the deer around here.
Most are gone, but I still see remnants from time to time.
They had a spike on the right side and a nice 3 or 4 point on the left.
Several years ago one summer I was out walking and came into a field and there was 3 of them standing together.
Looked like father, son and and granddad, I've killed a couple and a neighbor got a few.
I found this skull a couple days ago while out shed hunting, probably some kin to those.

Is there anything weird about the one eye that did not shine in the shot?

I'd say so, but I'm not any kind of expert.
Not sure why it didn't glow like the other or the other deer's did.
