internet speed

Post by dave77 » Sun Mar 03, 2024 12:47 am

Just upgraded my internet speed to 1 Gig up and down. $61 a month, only $7 a month more than my 100Mbps up and down. Haven't really noticed my computer downloads being any faster but the reason I did it was I'm planning on dropping my Dish TV so I maybe streaming 2 videos and using my computer at the same time. Shouldn't have any problem with these speeds.

Really getting more and more disappointed with Dish. Same reruns shown more and more frequently and channels I used to enjoy rarely show anything I want to see. History Channel is now mostly Ancient Aliens and some other reality shows. Travel channel is now mostly reality ghost shows. For a lot less than the $100 a month I pay for Dish I should be able to stream just about anything, also will be getting a digital UHF antenna for the few network shows I watch.

My cell phone is also my internet and I can take it anywhere. A cheap antenna will provide any tv I may want to watch.

we ditched cable years ago. Everything we watch right now comes from Amazon prime, which we had anyway, and Britbox. There are a ton of "free" streaming services out there if you don't mind watching a few commercials.

We haven't missed cable.

We are experimenting with streaming and looking into Star Link for our RV.
If I can get most of the channels I want on line we may eventually get rid of Dish and
go with only streaming.
With Carol working on the road over the internet we need something fast and reliable.
I'm thinking we'll try Star Link by the month on the RV and see what happens. I will get
the mobile version.

I have a Roku one tablet 2 phones and a TV on 12mbs DSL line. I have no trouble streaming on the computer and the TV at the same time. TV has a Roku box hooked to it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Still using an Antenna. Right now we are receiving about 30 Channels here way out in the country. We also have Roku which gives us what seems like an endless amount of shows and movies. All we had to do is buy the Roku box.

Currently have fiber 30 Mb/s up/dn. Have run as many as 4 streams and casual internet browsing simultaneously without noticing any problems.

The fiber itself is provided by our county PUD, several local ISP's provide the actual service. I've had the fiber for quite awhile and it is very dependable, very few outages over the years.

I probably would have been fine with my 100 up/down but figured why not for only $7 more a month.
