Stage 2 Kidney Cancer and Cataracts

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Jan 08, 2024 9:20 am

I was diagnosed two months ago with stage 2 kidney cancer. Or at least a stage 2 growth. My doctor told me it’s a 95% chance it’s cancer. January 25th I go for a biopsy. In 2003 I had prostate cancer and had it removed. Many of you know I’m a Disabled Vereran and that is what my disability is from. I was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

On the brighter side I’m told kidney cancer is slow growing and if I did nothing I still had 4 to 6 years. If I have surgery that gives me 6 to 12 years which is my normal life expectancy.

On Friday January 12th I have cataract surgery and I’m more concerned about it. I haven’t been able to drive for almost two months and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.

The cataracts have also effected my shooting and all my shooting has been just plinking. After surgery I can’t shoot for ten days and then have the second eye done. In reality I may have to go a month without shooting.

Hate to see that about the kidneys Gene, best of luck to you on that.
I've had the cataract surgery on the right eye some years ago, it was wonderful to be able to shoot right-hand once again.
Prayers up for you.

Sir Henry -

As far as cataract surgery, I will bet you an ice-cold Pepsi-Cola that you will be quite pleased with the results. I had both eyes done in December of 2022 and I can tell you that the ophthalmologists have this procedure down pat.

After the surgery, I was amazed at how much my eyesight had deteriorated over the prior 73 years. It was gradual, as I am sure yours was, and you don't realize the change. Afterwards, I was amazed at how clear and bright things are compared to before the procedures. Did you know trees have leaves?

Anyway, rest easy about the cataract surgery, you will be pleased.

Best wishes on the kidney situation. I hope all comes out well there too.

James

No doubt that your cataracts will be a big improvement.
One thing I have learned about you is that you are tough and optimistic. And that will go a long way to help fight the cancer.

Not sure if this is the same kidney issue you have but about 20 years ago my dad had a tumor in one of his kidneys. Fortunately surgery removed one kidney and the tumor was kept encapsulated in it and removed. He did not have to undergo any further treatment. Hope the same for you.

I do not recall what stage cancer he had.

Gene, I can't say it any better than Al, so I won't.

Thank you for sharing it with all of your friends here.

That is about the same outcome my doctor is predicting. Just the mention of cancer scares people. That might be the case with breast cancer which can double in 15 days. Other cancers such as prostate and kidney takes up to a year to double.

I hope to be making my stupid plinking reports for another decade.
