Blood Pressure-diet, exercise and medication

I have high blood pressure. High enough that I was a candidate for a stroke. My doctor put me on medication and I changed my diet. I’ve lost 15 pounds and need to loose another 5. I’ve also started getting more exercise like walking down to get the mail instead of taking the tractor. I’ve also started walking the loop around Timm’s Hill which is three miles and I can leave from my house.

The bottom line was my blood pressure wasn’t coming down. Then this morning I checked it and it had dropped 30 points.

It’s taken me two months to loose the 15 pounds and I’ve only been on meds for 2 weeks. Finally I’m seeing results and I feel good.

Getting my RVport built and installing enough propane tanks to get me through the winter has taken a lot of stress away. I have two inches of fresh snow on the ground and I’m set for winter. I don’t have to worry about keeping the driveway plowed so I can get a propane delivery. Worst case is I have to park down by the road and walk the 300 yards up my driveway.

Let it snow!

That’s great that your pressure is down. Equally great is your ability to get some quality exercise walking around your place…..good exercise plus a beautiful view also.

Good work, Gene. It takes time for your body to adjust to BP meds, so don't plush too hard, too quick. I got a whole new set of BP meds after my heart surgery and it's been tricky at times to adapt with my exercise.

Yup, 3" of snow over here.

The Flight Surgeon put me on BP meds over forty years ago. For Air Traffic Controllers it's just what they do when you turn forty. In fact they had me on multiple BP meds to the outcome that I couldn't stay awake, so I complained and they took all but one away. My present Doc worries about strokes all the time, but my BP is nearly perfect.

I attribute that to having lost quite a bit of weight along with living in a three story house. I am up and down the stairs several times a day. Along with that living here in the woods I am constantly working on the place cutting wood, clearing brush, mowing grass, plowing snow, ect. I keep moving. I eat most anything I want but do avoid sugar.

1 inch of snow on the ground but not enough to plow or even worry about.

Good for you taking care of your blood pressure Gene. Continue the exercise whether you think you need to or not.
I had high bp and then I lost 100 lbs. I passed out from the meds once as I was losing the weight. I backed myself of the meds on my own. When I was done, I didn't need them. A promotion meant more office work and 25 - 35 lbs went back on and back on bp meds. I've lost 20 lbs so far and the meds are getting cut each time I lose weight. (The pills get smaller too) I try to exercise, by walking, as much as possible.
Good for you and stay healthy my friend.

P.S. We got an inch this morning. It's all gone except for the deck.

I was expecting the BP to drop slowly over a three week period.
