A short rant...

I had to drag out a step ladder and climb out on my soapbox. I am getting so tired of trying to watch a video and the darn commercials popping up. I understand the content creators need to make money but...

The commercials pop up:

* In the middle of a sentence
* In the middle of a word
* Seconds before the main point of a theme.

Then, the commercial is:

* Six seconds long
* Three minutes long but with a "Skip" button after five or six seconds...
* Repeated every three minutes,

I'd rather HAVE to watch 30 seconds of commercial at the beginning of the video than have the flow of the content disrupted every couple minutes. Sadly some of the creators have gotten greedy and overloaded content to the point where it's gotten so bad you (I at least) just click the little X in the top right corner after one too many interruptions, giving up on the content entirely. For me, this is usually at the third pop up of commercials. I actually had a short music video stop in MID vocal, play a commercial then pick back up. Nope. Done. Red X time. The singer opened her mouth to power thru the vocal and I got a cat food commercial. Really?

rant understood .... we have Dish TV and I've found a few channels (like Turner Classic Movies) that show movies I enjoy without commercials .... those are the ones I record and save on our DVD ....

These are videos on line... like youtube...
I don't watch tv much anymore for just that reason. I once tried to watch a tv show recently, and you'd get about three minutes of content, five minutes of commercials or "coming attractions" then three minutes of content, then another five minutes of BS... I turned off the TV and put in a Blue Ray.

There is an add on to Firefox called Youtube enhancer. It cuts out all the ads.

I hear you Marine. I feel the same, but rarely watch ones that repeat the ads too often.

I like your no count account forty!

I feel your pain Marine. Just trying to read articles on line is getting tedious. Reading along and halfway into a page when the page reloads and goes back to the top. Then there are the moving ad videos that scroll along with you. And conveniently block the text.
Then there are the teasers that give you maybe the first paragraph then a pop up that prompts you to sign up for the premium membership to continue reading.
It seems to be getting crowded on this soapbox. :D

On YouTube you are sort of stuck, unless you go premium and go commercial free. When I do watch a YouTube videos and get interrupted mid sentence, I simply back the video up a few seconds. For my satellite TV (Dish) I just DVR most shows and watch them later. Then I can fast forward thru the commercials. Cuts 15 minutes out of an hour show.
