Poor air quality

I have never seen it more hazy here than today. We are still up at the cabin and I spent the day clearing brush. As a result, I still have a headache. We are right about 4000 ft. in elevation and the local forecast was for bad air quality from that elevation and up. I forgot about the warning when I started working this morning. Spent about 5 hours on the slopes with a weed whacker. Every part of me hurts.
I know many are feeling the results of the Canadian wildfires. I've just never seen the haze sooo bad this far south. I feel for them up there. Hope things improve soon.

Yesterday was the first time I could smell something in the air that wasn't from a livestock yard. It reminded me of an auto fire...the smell of burnt wiring. My respiratory system is a bit compromised; I could feel it when I was mowing the lawn. I also hope things improve soon for our northern neighbors.

For the first time ever, since the fires in Canada, I saw a little haze today.
But I believe it was someone burning in my neighborhood, lol.
So far we've been pretty lucky.

I'm in NY, about 40 miles WNW from Albany, and we had the smoke/haze pretty bad about a week or two ago. You could look up at the sun during mid-day and it looked like a red/orange ball. The air had that distinctive campfire kind of smell to it too. It moved down to Northern and Central NJ a couple days later. Winds shifted and we haven't had it like that for a while now. The news now reports that weather patterns will bring it back to us about for the next few days. Our governor wants to use the cell phone alert systems to inform everyone when the air quality goes into the danger zone......whatever that is.

It’s been bad here for a month or more. I usually ignore it but yesterday it was so bad I had a terrible headache which I seldom get so I stayed inside all day. Today I leave for Alaska so clean air here I come.

Exactly!...danger zone?
What is one supposed to do if they don't have A/C?

Hope you get that clean air and it doesn't turn around and come out of the south.

It's supposed to be around here today. They say it was here yesterday, but I didn't notice with rain and drizzle all day.

It was the worst here yesterday of any day so far. I can only imagine what it must be like in Canada.
It doesn't seem to bother me and I worked out in it all day yesterday but I can sure see how it could.
Visibility here yesterday was like a foggy day. Incredible.

Well, it turns out that it was Canadian smoke!!
My neighbors weren't burning and now that I think of it, there was no burning smell.
I got fooled, lol. Local TV says we are near the danger zone. Little hazy out there now and probably going to get worse later today.

Had it in Colorado about 30 days ago and when Colorado had all those fires a couple years ago it was terrible here. Someone tell Ranchroper to get the fires out

We haven't had any smoke yet but it's seems like it's a regular occurrence anymore so I'm sure it will be here before Summer's end. One Summer it was so bad you couldn't see across the width of the Columbia river. I was still working then and the maintenance HVAC guy had to go around to all the schools and shut down all the outside air intakes, normally it's required that the systems bring in at least 10% outside air.
Turns out our recent fire was caused by a PUD crew, not sure of the details of how it started, they tried to put it out but it's so dry it took off on them. No structures damaged but we were lucky it's still early in the fire season so 3 planes and 2 helicopters were available to dump water on it.

Smelled a sulfur odor Sunday afternoon which was reported to be from a refinery flare due to the weather conditions around Gary IN. Then Monday it got hazy and has stayed that way. Hoping the winds change soon.

Winds from the south and west mostly, so not much evidence of it here in central W TN.
We're only about 385' above SL, also.

Not bad today. The southwest winds evidently blew it out for a day or so.

Out west where I am smoke is very common but not unusually until later in the summer when all the wildfires are burning. Thankfully for me this Canadian event hasn’t drifted our way with the exception of a few days. Sorry for all you folks in the Midwest and east that are suffering from this and have been for so many weeks.

I flew over Canada yesterday from Wisconsin to Alaska and looked down on smoke and clouds most of the way.
