I just watched the live feed of the launch of the biggest rocket in history.
It was spectacular right up until it started rotating and didn't separate from the
third stage, then they blew it up.
Spacex says it was a success as all they wanted to do is get it clear of the tower so they
could gather data. I know a lot of folks think it is a waste of money, but the jobs it provides
and the scientific advances we gain from it are astronomical.

The landing,not so much.

I watched the clip soon after the announcement of the mishap and was really puzzled why the 3 person reporting panel was so happy, well satisfied and called it a success. Seemed like some kind of "spin" to me. But I said "Oh, well it's Elon Musk's money".

Then I saw on TV this morning that NASA is paying him "Billions" to finance this project??

As little as I know about this program, someone needs to educate me on this, as to me this is crazy. I know we are not supposed to talk about politics here and hopefully we can avoid it, but isn't the National Debt and Military Funding 2 much more important issues here?

much the same discussions have taken place since the Wright Brothers .... they were ramped up during the early days of our space program .... I don't remember exactly how many Vanguard rockets blew up trying to get off the launch pad ..... during that time tremendous advances in medicine and medical equipment took place .... as did a wide range of things like aeronautics, metallurgy, computer technology .... back then our enemies were working hard to develop a range of military advantages .... today, China is reported to be working hard to colonize the moon and to eventually move on to other planet ..... expensive, most certainly ..... necessary, I believe that is also a certainty

I see the good points, but the difference between the very early days and now is that there was no debt back then. There becomes a time where common sense must kick in. Mentioning China reminds me of my mention of Military funding.

Also, I really wouldn't mind if some people actually moved to the moon, lol.

It's all relative. When I left my corporate job, back then I was making very good money. Now that same amount today is peanuts.
I'm glad to see the space program moving ahead. I believe it is a very important part of our future; the ones who will be around after me that is.

The "ones who will be around after" us is something most aren't worry about.

By they way, scroll down in the link above for some interesting info. At first I figured it was just a clock, but there's more.

Especially read the last couple of sentences in the link. America may be more concerned than it seems.
