Buy or reload lots of ammo. You'll need it, if you are serious about helping control the population. Feral hogs in MS don't require a permit, there are no firearm restrictions (full auto is allowed if you have a NFA stamp), and it's open season, no limit, day or night 365 days a year. We kill 10's of thousands by various means every year, and we still can't keep up with the population growth. They breed faster than we can kill them. We ain't gonna BBQ our way out of this.
If that's how they want to play, then y'all are gonna have a serious problem in 10 or 20 years. Those cute little white picket/privacy fences (or common 5' chain link) in the 'burbs won't even slow them down. They eat anything, including your house pets and kids if they're handy.
Gene in Wyoming and Colorado there is already issues with Elk herds that are destroying crops and pastures because of the herd sizes. just this last year Colorado was seeking sharp shooters to do herd control around Great Sand Dunes National Monument. So when these herds get out of control farmers and ranchers turn to the big man for help. Guess where the help comes from. Why not open it up to people who want the meat. USDA estimates and WAGs are just that. They try to spot as many as they can and/or take reports from State and Local sources, which themselves aren't terribly reliable. About the only thing you can get from these surveys is that the populations are growing over the long term. Year to year doesn't mean much, partly because pigs are very mobile. They can be in County 1 today, and 2 counties away by the next morning. Good swimmers to. The maps show the population by counties in Oregon raising and lowering over the years so they must have some kind of eradication program there too.

On the map below (taken from the F&S article), Hatch, John and a couple of other members are near the black arrowhead, and I’m at the yellow one. Come Monday, Henry hopefully is shipping a scope mount for my .44 BBSC. Between the few of us, we’ll get them critters!
Frankly, I feel like more people have seen Sasquatch in our area than a bonafide feral pig. There’s been a couple of “loose” domestic pigs shot, but they have come from known hog farms with recent escapees.
