Winter weather annoyance

Post by Ozarkwoodswalker » Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:02 pm

So we had a snowstorm sort of last night...( in some parts of the world perhaps just a light dusting) ... whatever, 7 or 8 inchs of heavy wet snow... stuck on powet lines and tree limbs so knocked about 14000 customers of thev ocal electric coop out of power. Im one of them . Went out about 4:30 this morning and its about 2 in the afternoon and nothing yet. Just sitting by the fireplace ,so house is not cold... but it does render lots of annoyances. Guess we are all softies... went out early and got all the cattle fed and took care of.... so now just waiting for lights and water..... good to have backup heat... while i love my geothermal heat pump.... its dead in the water without that electric juice.... so today, the fireplace is my friend.....

We just got rain down here, but it is a chilly day as the wind has been whipping pretty good
I just built a fire in the wood stove, I like the cheap heat. ;)
Hope it is back on before dark.

We're getting one of those wet sticky slippery snow storms right now. I had the motorhome out of the shed at the
neighbors shop for some minor repair and was going to take it into town for fuel and propane. I got a mile up the
road and said, "Nope, nope, nope, not today. It's back home in the barn. I'll get fuel another day.

7 or 8 inches of wet heavy snow is way more than an annoyance. That is the worst kind of snow and leads to power outages and damaged trees no matter where you live. Sorry for your troubles and hopefully the power has come back on by now. Sure like how a “softie” like you took care of his livestock before himself. :D

You mean winter of civilization. I bought 100 rounds of 308 Winchester Power Point yesterday and I don’t even own anything that will shoot it. I hope to pick up a Long Ranger soon.

308 is one of the most accurate cartridges around. When I had a bench resters club they all shot 308s.
The problem is the recoil if you shoot a lot. 308 is similar to 7.62 but the M14 had more weight to soak up recoil.
Mine is custom made hunting bolt action and it kicks!

I’ve only shot 308 actually 7.62 NATO in an M14. I didn’t think the kick was that bad. It might be in a lever or bolt especially at my age. I’m buying it for hunting and not plinking so it’s not like I’m going to send 200 rounds down range in a morning.

I don’t really plan on hunting. It’s for for if the SHTF. Most likely I would barter for venison with ammo.
