Saw this in woods the other day. Never sawca varmit nest like this that i recall. Conservation department and also some other friends that trap say its a pack rat den. Interesting. I surely have stumbled by some before and just didnt notice i guess. The silly thing is probabably nearly 2 foot high and 6 or 8 foot long. Guess they wanted to keep out the cold..

I’ve seen nests of them before. If you dig it up expect to find a lot of shiny objects.

That took some work.

Based on the title, I was expecting a picture of a room in your, or someone eles's house.

I'd like to see what treasures are inside. Are you going to take it apart?

Probably not.. its a quarter mile to any house... i csnt inagine tgey would find much wherevits at and i dont seeca rat going a quarter mile across fields to get to a house where he might carry off something

Shine a light in there and see what color the eyes are staring back!

I'd be afraid instead of a rat I'd find a wolverine and he wouldn't be happy.

I'm not worried about the wolverine be unhappy, I'd be worried about ME being unhappy after the encounter.

They smell like skunks. Had one in an attic years ago.

I had pack rats in my shed some years ago. Was looking for something that I knew was in there and saw that a couple of buckets were filled with all kinds of stuff including the item I was looking for. Managed to shoot the 2 males with my pellet gun, got the female in a rat trap after a couple of tries. She had made a nest on top of my mower deck, the babies went in the creek and probably became fish food when they made it to the river. Have not had any return since then.

Also had groundhogs around the property years ago, didn't have a garden at that time and all they did was eat my dandelions so they didn't bother me, one year they just disappeared and have never returned.

Squirrels used to come and go but now that we have more mature pine trees and my neighbor has a walnut tree that has gotten large they seem to be staying around. The squirrels around here are pretty small so probably not worth hunting.

Back in the early 90s, I was working evening patrol and Tina was managing a barn for someone with a LOT of money. Every now and then he would hire me to do some labor around his farm. He had a pile of barn boards in a pasture he planned to use for a high dollar stallion and said he would pay me my overtime rate ($15 an hour) to move them. As I was moving the boards and stacking them on his flatbed trailer, I kept a sharp eye out for snakes, rattlers would ruin my day. I had a .45 tucked in the small of my back. A wolverine ran out of the pile, turned and stood up and looked at me. He didn't look happy. I drew the .45 in case he started my way. luckily he went the other direction. I only had three mags....

I never saw him again.
