So last spring a wild cherry tree blew over on one of my barbwire boundry fences. So when i go cut it off and fix the fence i see when i cut the end that it is a beautiful orange even redish color, so i cut it in four small logs... they are only maybe 11 to 12 inches thick.... it makes four logs ... some are 8 foot, some 6.5 feet ... i call some friends whose husband does wood working and ask if he wants them.. i will just give it to them if they will come get them. YES they say they want them!... so i road the tractor over from other farm and take a chain and drag them up in the field so we can get them loaded in his truck. Months go by.... i ask them like three or four times when are they coming to get them. No one has ever showed up and its been 8 months.... i figure out in my weak brain pan that they must not be that interested in getting them. So today i loaded two up in the back of my little truck (with some difficulty... hey, im an old guy!) and i haul them four or five miles down the road to where a young guy has a small portable mill and im going to pay him a 100 bucks to saw the 4 logs into one inch lumber. My son is coming saturday to help me load the other two cause they are a little too heavy for me to manage by myself,(no use hurting your back or getting a hernia over a little pile of lumber that im not even sure what im going to do with yet.) .... i just hate to see anything go to waste...

I do a lot of woodworking with Cherry. I love the color.

If you have my luck they'll try and get them right after you find them useful! "You snooze, you loose.", is the expression.

It was kind of you to offer them...their loss.

That will be some nice wood to make things out of! Back in the 70's a large walnut tree fell over on my Uncle's farm during a storm. My Dad the wood worker had it cut up and planed and made several pieces of furniture out of it. I still have some of the wood planks.

There are all kinds of things you can do with cherry, it's a beautiful wood. I did this with a cherry slab a couple years ago....



I'm not surprised the people didn't come to get the free wood. Miss T and I have offered a lot of things to people for free. They want to know when we can deliver them. Once you get the wood cut into boards, make sure you stack them flat and where they can get airflow, and they can dry properly and you can be sure you can make something NICE from them. I wouldn't give them away after that. You might TRADE them for something made in return...

** If you had offered them to me... I would have been there promptly and helped to fix the fence, Miss T right beside me. LOL.
