Target stand

Post by Cofisher » Tue Nov 29, 2022 10:45 pm

Senior moment. Somewhere, a couple months ago, I saw a great target stand. And, as too often, immediately forgot where.

It was a double t post unit, with a paper frame between the posts. Each t post held a gong. A 2x4 or equivalent frame was set between the t posts to hold a paper target.

Anybody see such a thing? Or do I build my own?

Sounds like a DIY. There's dozens of plans for target stands on youtube.

I built one based on a youtube video. Very simple to make. You just need two 2x4's. The nice part is that the finished stand is in two pieces. The upright part just slides down into the base. That makes it easy to break down for carry or transport. Wish I had a pic, but I don't think I do.

I looked at their website, it is redesigned, but doesn't seem to show stock. Maybe give them a call.

I have this for paper targets but I suppose you could set it up for a gong. The base will accept 2x4's or 1x2's.

I make these out of a pair of treated 8 foot 2x4's and they last a long time.

Sorry I can’t help you out with the specific stand you’re asking about but here is a home made stand i knocked together. The 2x4 holding the gong is removable for portability but this mother is heavy and while my intended use is to take it to a pit I will be using a cart to get it down range.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will be building a stand using brackets and lumber. The portability will be a deciding factor.

I have tried all sorts of portable stands with varying success. I just ordered one of these, mainly for airgun shooting. It would be easy enough to duplicate if you are a metal fabricator. You can get steel gongs of various sizes on Craigslist or eBay. I plan to hang empty plastic medicine bottles.

My reason for building a decent stand is I intend to get much more serious about my shooting. I’ve not been to a range in a couple years. All of my shooting is happening at my sons place. Farm house in the boonies. We have a good berm, but just open yard to shoot from. We’ve used boxes with targets taped on. Just adequate.

In trying to improve on that, the good target stand is a must. And, I just got this. Hoping to make a big improvement.
