I left most of my winter mountaineering clothes behind and now have to replace them. Sure is expensive. I spent $100 on a Stormy Kromer. I had a Filson in Seattle and it must have found it’s way to the giveaway pile.

I feel your pain. Clothes worth buying, are not cheap. I can only blame myself for the items I no longer have because I grew out of them. Primarily...pants.

Shirts. I think they just make them smaller now. What's up with that?

My Army uniform shrunk just sitting in the closet for 52 years.

Yes, I think they're trying to increase their profits by using less material, I used to wear Large t-shirts and now have to get XXLarge.

I've saved all my old shorts just in case I happen to lose weight. Have a couple pairs of slacks that probably don't fit anymore but I hardly ever wear slacks. The last couple of pairs of Wranglers I bought still fit but are getting a little snug.

At least my shoes and boots still fit but I've noticed that either my legs are getting longer or my arms are getting shorter as it's getting more difficult to tie my shoe laces.

If I lose 10 lbs I have a whole new wardrobe hanging in my closet. I keep them just in case.

Socks.... what is it with socks nowdays? Within 3 months I get holes in the bottom of the heel and these supposed to be the extra thick Dickies!
Got to buy some new ones this week.

I WAS doing that but ran out of room.

Winter clothes?

For me that's basically summer clothes with a couple long sleeve shirts and a light jacket on hand. OK, I have a heavy jacket that gets used maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

Got to buy some new ones this week.

I buy the best merino wools socks I can find and buy 20 pair all alike. They will last from 3 to 5 years before I loose so many I only have a dozen pair left.

Gene I also left lots of clothes in Washington, I am prepared and bought some long sleeve t shirts for the coming South Carolina winter

No big loss for me as a lot of my clothes were old to begin with. Add that to the fact that even on the top of Mt. Rainier it doesn’t get -40F so my clothes wouldn’t have been much good here.

I have found that I have to buy large shirts since the sleeves seem to have gotten shorter. I get heavy flannel shirts and long sleeve tees at Tractor supply when they have a sale in the fall. They also have a sale on Carhartt coats and bibs in November with the best prices I have found. These Carhartts last for several years and I keep a medium weight coat as well as the Arctic versions for the very cold windy got to clear the driveways days. Alway keep two pair of chopper mittens with the leather treated with beeswax and good wool inserts. They are the warmest I have found living in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan and stay warm even if they do get wet. After a little practice mittens aren't so awkward and are the best for keeping the fingers working. Also have a pair or two of flannel lined jeans that help keep the knees working in biting wind. I hate to get numb fingers, knees and toes.

Luckily, I can, with few exceptions, wear the same clothes year-round. It does get cold here but not very often or for very long. I have a few long-sleeved shirts, a light jacket, a jean jacket and two heavier coats to wear if it does get below 45° or so. The tradeoff is we usually melt in the summer heat.

I wore shorts year round in Seattle except if it got below 20F more more than a day. I over dressed on top when it was that cold. I’m thinking shorts for another two weeks here in Wisconsin.

Well, "shiver me timbers"

Since retiring I mostly wear shorts even in the Winter if I'm inside or going somewhere where I will be inside, I will wear a jacket or coat. If I'm going to be outside for very long I will wear my long johns and my Sorrels. I still have my Carhartt insulated overalls but have not had to wear them since retiring.

I used to freeze when I had to snow blow for several hours early mornings, mostly my feet even with my Sorrels on until I started using Toe Warmers. Amazing how warm they keep your feet for how small they are.

I too swore by the toe warmers when I was working outside. They are lifesavers.

I had never worn mittens until I went to Fairbanks. Working outside, I learned real quick how to dress for the cold. I got good at doing things with them mittens on.

Yup! I learned that, living 20 years in Chicago. Mittens easily win, over regular gloves.
