in looking at the long range forecast, there is an unnamed rain system headed for the Caribbean that could easily develop into a strong hurricane level storm that could easily make landfall in the US

Season has been mild so far. We need some rain here in Central Va. but don't need the hurricane wind. The strong cold front came thru this afternoon with some dark clouds but only a 2 minute sprinkle of rain drops. My creek has been bone dry for last 2 months down at the range.

Red sky in the morning sailor take warning, red sky at night, sailors delight.

they are predicting Fiona will make landfall in Canada .... if/when it does, it will be the strongest storm in that area's recorded history

the storm mentioned above has been named Ian .... looks like the Gulf Coast of Florida is in for major blow .... as always, much depends on just where it comes ashore

latest projection shows Ian's eye to come on shore in the Florida Panhandle sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday and to be in our area sometime Friday or Saturday ... Cat 4 projection for Florida, Tropical Storm level by the time it gets to us .... our area of central NC really needs the rain but sure doesn't need the wind

Hopefully the wind will have diminished by the time it hits the Carolinas. I worked for the US Weather
Bureau just long enough to get my basic license and I loved it, they just didn't pay enough.
I follow storms just like you do JE and have for years. When I lived in Virginia I endured several that
came through.

Getting ready for a big blow

Post by Travlin » Mon Sep 26, 2022 10:18 pm

Looks like we may get it from some powerful wind and storm surge. I spent the day boarding up and moving loose items indoors. Bought generator gas last Saturday and most likely will need it. Storm surge will not be a problem here and we are a D evacuation zone but most of the neighbors are A,B, and C and have to get out. Looks like it will hit us sometime on Thursday . After that who knows when we will get internet back. You folks be good at least until I am not around for a while.

Stay safe my friend, I also have friends in the Keys, and some on the central W. coast.

Pray that everything goes ok. Last I heard, Puerto Rico had like 22" of rain in 24 hours. Virgin Islands got over 30".
