Hate it when this happens!

Post by fortyshooter » Sat Jun 25, 2022 1:24 pm

For almost 6 years I had this unique address post up at my range property and BAM it's gone!

Some yahoo missed the curve which comes from other direction up the road and took a fast trip to the woods along with my post.
Haven't found the big bullet yet. Dang it! :x Looks like he got out the way he came in.

I'm sure it left a signature on their vehicle.

He probably got out to check the damage, saw the big bullet, and thought, "That's Cool. I could use this." Sorry for the loss brother. I think we had a long thread here a few years ago about mailboxes, damage, mailbox baseball, postmasters, carriers, etc. ;)

We put our box up at the new farm according to USPS regs. The carrier wanted it where SHE wanted it. refused to deliver mail until we moved it. Not.

We had it back off the road so the carrier was safely off the road in the blind curve in a cleared gravel pull off. Also kept the wife and kids off the roar when checking the mail, and put the box out of play for mailbox baseball.

Attempt to swing at our box, you catch air hitting the hump of our gravel drive and drop ten feet into the mush of the culvert fed ravine below... You might hit the willow.

We didn't move the box, the postmaster moved the carrier.

Our bank of seven mail boxes used to be right on the highway. One day I had just got the mail and
was walking back to my car when a two wheeled trailer came unhitched and took out all seven just'
missing yours truly. :o
The guy stopped and apologized. The next day he rebuilt all the mail boxes on his own. Nice guy,
of course I knew where he lived.

The mail boxes are now on the service road well away from the traffic and safer for all including the
carrier.

First house my brother had was near a sharp curve and his neighbor was right at the curve. Lot of times on a weekend night somebody would be haulin and miss the curve and end up in the guy's yard. One night my brother was woke up to see flashing red lights thru out the living room and looked out to see an emergency vehicle had missed the curve and had landed right next to the guy's house. Month later there was a highway guard rail put up by the city in front of the yard!

Directly across from our ravine, and that curve, was a gravel road that ran thru the state forest for several miles. Popular route for drunks to cut thru to avoid the main highway or youngsters to take to avoid prying eyes while tooling around in the wheels. The road ended abruptly after coming over a rise, and several times a year we'd find the road frontage torn up where someone blew the stopsign, crossed the road, and went into the mush... Some were lucky enough to power out, others had to call for a tow. The first year or two we went down and offered to pull people out with the tractor... But dealing with abusive drunks at 2am in uniform on duty while getting paid is one thing...

... Doing it for free at 2am and risking getting sued for damage you didn't cause. Ah... Nope. If we heard the accident, we'd call the Sheriff's Office, they would send a deputy and rescue. Most of the time we never heard it.

Whoa! Maybe when you replace it, build it in brick and concrete.
